Twilight vs. Harry Potter

Edward vs. Harry

“Twilight” or “Harry Potter”—do I really have to choose? Because I can’t, I really can’t! But…I can certainly talk up the merits of one or the other. Seeing as I’m the Twilight Superfan, well I’m going to talk up the vampires, duh. If you’ve been a regular visitor to this site, you know I loves me some stone-cold bloodsuckers; especially the ones with bronze hair and velvety voices. So let’s talk about why “Twilight” is what it is—a story that has captivated millions and created an immense fan base with an intense and passionate case of OCD (Obsessive Cullen Disorder).

So how does this face-off work? I've joined forces with Becky and Mae, Harry Potter über-fans, to compare "Twilight" with "Harry Potter" on select categories, including friendship, romance, fantasy elements, writing style, and main conflict. Plus, we face off on Hermione vs. Bella and Harry vs. Edward. I want to hear who YOU think won each round in the comments!

Spoiler Alert: If you haven’t read the whole series yet, be warned; this Face-off is full of spoilers!

If you haven't taken this poll yet, give your two cents on which series you like better!

This whole argument can be totally avoided you know. Harry Potter and Twilight aren't even in the same genre! The only thing the two have in common is that they are both really big sellers. Here's what I say: If you like romance read Twilight. If you like adventure, read Harry Potter. If you like Romance and Adventure, read them both. Why do we have to choose?

alhebert- The idea of "fiction" is anything that is not non-fiction or historical, aka anything that is not based on real life events. It is not a word used to describe books that change around basic human mentality or function. "Fiction" is just a fabricated life of a fabricated character, and does not imply that things are not centered in reality at all. Despite what you apparently think, good works of "fantasy" and "fiction" are actually able to incorporate humans acting like humans, even in a world where vampires and werewolves exist. This is why Harry Potter will always beat out Twilight in ever aspect. Harry, even though he;s a wizard, is also portrayed as realistic and human. Bella, who is meant to /just/ be human, doesn't act or think like a normal human girl one at all. Why make a role model that thinks self-harm is a-okay for the sake of a flimsy "love" that half the time involves the two staring at each other?

HARRY POTTER. absolutely no competition. for one, harry potter is TIMELESS. in a couple yrs, twilight will be known as a series that had an annoying cult following at one point (no offense) for another, HARRY IS SO MUCH MORE COMPLEX. his character evolves and the plot is FANTASTIC. twilight? its a lovestory. THATS IT. i completely agree w/ Mrs Potter. I feel sick to my stomache that you would even compare a work of genius like the Harry Potter series to an epic fail like Twilight (again, no offense) oh and on a side note, the werewolves in Harry are so much cooler that the ones in Twilight. in my humble opinion. so yes, my vote goes to HARRY. in the friendship, love, and all around awesomeness deparment. HARRY FOREVER. <3

Don't get me wrong I've been A Harry Potter fan for ages. But Robert Patison had didn't have a big role in Harry Potter til Goblet of Fire then u killed him off. There is more to the other realm then magic. There has always been Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, etc. In Twilight it shows that mortals can live amoung immortals and get along. And Twilight has the enternal/forbidden love between Edward and Bella. and we all want love to conquire all. So my vote goes for Twilight. Twilight for ever.

when it comes to friendship i would have to say harry potter hands down. love both books cant say i love one more than the other cuz i read both series over and over over again. but the aspect of friendship harry...............look how ron and hermione risk their life and their family's life to help harry in Deathly hallow's it doesn't really get much better than that...

Harry Potter wins. The fact that you even think there's the slightest chance of competition makes me feel physically ill. Nuff said.

I am a big FAN of both series, it was by accident that I read Harry, and I was captivated from the very start. I didn't enjoy reading in the begining and it was because of Harry Potter why I even started reading again. Any ways.... suffice to say though when I read Twilight it was again by accident, but again I was captivated by the first few pages. WHICH ONE IS BETTER?!?!? I believe it's not a matter of which one is better but which one sparks my imagination more. And that is where I believe Harry Potter has a upperhand. There is a whole world, where everyone has there own background story or life, there is a life where there are muggles, wizards and witches, you follow along a life of a boy who was mistreated in his life that later turned his life into a monument-which saved that worlds life. There is so much going on that I never wanted to put down the book, because I loved the world J.K created. Whereas Twilight I was just captivated by the romance. No disrespect to Stephanie but I think she could have went a little further with the story. But LOVE it all the same.
