Only a Grinch could say no to this face:
Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine and a Miracle

"Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine & a Miracle" by Kirby Larson, Mary Nethery and Major Brian Dennis is in stores now.

Probably the sweetest story to be published this year if you are the kind of person who likes nice guys, nice dogs and happy endings. The book's site has loads of great extras including coloring pages.

Have you seen Major Brian Dennis on the "Today" show talking about Nubs and the book? If not, try watching this without wanting to give both Brian and Nubs a big, sloppy kiss.
The family might actually get bigger on Saturday (National Bookstore Day) if you go to Third Place Books in Washington –

Newberry honor winning co-author Kirby Larson will be at Third Place that evening for the Nubs book launch. There will surely be treats and drinks, but you'll also be able to adopt a Homeward Pet, too!

And for some inside story scoop on how the book came to be: Kirby's and Mary's last book together, "The Two Bobbies," is a similar story of amazing animals and people in terrible situations. When Kirby and Mary read about Brian's story, they knew this was the next book they wanted to make.

They sent Major Dennis many emails while he was still in Iraq asking if they could be the ones to help bring his story to children. No answer for weeks. But then Kirby had a very maternal inspired stroke of genius – she remembered that Brian's mother had been mentioned by name in a related newspaper article. Kirby and Mary CALLED HIS MOTHER. And then Brian got in touch. Adorable.
