After screening footage from the political spoof, set to the Black Keys'
"Gold on the Ceiling," the actors fielded questions from the audience
something Ferrell embraced and Galifianakis shunned. Or so they'd have you
believe.
"Will loves to stop and chat, take photos," Galifianakis said. "And
I f-ing hate it."
So when one fan asked them to give a fake campaign speech in character the
two play opposing candidates in a race for a seat in Congress it was Ferrell
who stepped up to the plate.
Though he asked his comrade to go first, Galifianakis said he wasn't good on
the spot.
"I'm not gonna do it right now; I feel like the energy is not right in the
room,' he said in character, joking that the fan looked like Rachel Maddow.
So Ferrell presented his speech:
"I appreciate you coming down to Comic-Con here; it's my first time, and I
really enjoy it here. People of San Diego are full of such life; they're so
friendly. I'm ironically a huge fan of Rachel Maddow's, as well, and it's really
great to meet you. You're shorter than I thought you'd be in person."
(Ferrell, in fact, appeared at Comic-Con last year for "The Other Guys" and in 2010 on behalf of his film
"Mega-Mind.")
Most of the rest of the panel was spent making fun of the audience members
for their questions and appearances, but there was one question that drew a real
answer.
Were any political stories they based the spoof on?
"The entire Bush administration," Galifianakis said. "That was pretty
funny."
