It was an emotional year for fans of "The Notebook," who let out a collective "squee!"
when co-stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams reunited over the summer. But their dreams were crushed when
the button-cute Canadian pair reportedly went belly up again in November. The
Best Kiss-winning duo (go on, rewatch it for the umpteenth time -- we'll wait) had fanned their rekindled flame with a swoon-inducing PDA interlude during an August lunch date
before apparently deciding love wasn't better the second time around. Blame was
placed on their conflicting work schedules, the same reason cited when they
first broke up in April 2007 after almost two years together. "The only thing I
remember is we both went down swingin' and we called it a draw," the actor told
GQ after their initial split, calling McAdams "one of the great loves of my
life." He also acknowledged how tough it was living in the shadow of their
meant-for-each-other "Notebook" alter egos, Noah and Allie. "People do Rachel
and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie,"
Ryan explained. "Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than
that."
