Hookup: Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon dated for six long -- and apparently frustrating
-- weeks before hotfooting it down the aisle in a
surprise April 30 knot-tying in the Bahamas. Turns out the pair had refrained
from doing the horizontal hokey-pokey until they were legally wed. "It's not
that we had no intimacy. We just didn't have complete intimacy," the
divorced chanteuse overshared to the London Daily Mirror.
"... I just thought that it would be so much more special if we waited until
after we were married. And it was, and it still is." Mariah and Nick sure seemed
to be walking on air after the wedding. "I never felt a love like this was in
the cards for me," bubbled the besotted belter, 39, while her
dozen-years-younger groom swooned, "She is beautiful on the outside and 10 times
as beautiful on the inside." Mariah's outside was made a bit more beautiful
courtesy of the 17-carat, pink diamond engagement ring on her finger, which Nick
placed inside a candy ring pop for the proposal, a perfect hiding place for a
couple who described themselves as "eternally 12 years old." But the $2.5
million sparkler wasn't enough for the so-called "soul mates." They decided to make things even more
permanent by etching each other's name on their bodies: She wrote "Mrs. Cannon"
on her lower back, while he emblazoned an enormous "Mariah" across his
shoulders. "Rings and all that is special and exciting," opined Nick. "But to
us, tattoos mean more than anything because it's something we never thought we'd
do." Something else Mariah never thought she'd do is become a mom, but she has
dropped repeated spawning hints since the wedding. In November, she touched off
stork whispers when she was snapped beachside in a modest cover-up instead of
her usual teeny bikini. "People are constantly asking me if I'm pregnant, but I
don't like to talk about it too much," said Mariah. "I just think about it as
the next phase. We'll see."
