Maybe losing so much weight for a movie part is the reason he does not look as good as he used to, maybe age, maybe both.  I like the healthy, cocky, buff and brown beach bum we used to see.  Life moves us all forward, good, bad or indifferent.

Filmed in Louisiana- the Texas setting looked real, but that chicken leg scene was too much and the old Jazzland   roller coaster in the background gave the location in the film away! Still- a dark sinister dramedy!

I'm not offended by much in mainstream movie entertainment, but the chicken leg scene in "Killer Joe" was in poor taste even by my standards. Despite some good acting (Thomas Haden Church for one), this movie was a complete waste of time. McConaughey is a talented actor who may be looking for a departure from his silly romantic comedies, but he can do much better than this.

Best and worst careers of 2012

Who scored and who sank in Hollywood this past year

By Kim Morgan
Special to MSN Movies

As 2012 comes to a close, we look closely at our lives, our finances, our presidential candidates and ... did Matthew McConaughey really just do that with a piece of fried chicken? Did I really just see that? And holy mother of God, how was that so simultaneously depraved and darkly hilarious? Well, it took more than a piece of chicken to make McConaughey's career in 2012 (I can't believe I just wrote that sentence), as the actor took on challenging roles that catapulted him back into where he belongs: a great year. Unlike, say, Taylor Kitsch. With that in mind, we're looking at the five best and five worst careers of the year. And please, Twi-hards, no hate mail. Please.
