Writers' strike leaves a deadly trail in its wake: Last
winter's work stoppage had much more dire consequences for the TV industry, but
it still was felt on the big screen. A number of scheduled productions, such as
"Justice League," the remake of "Escape From New York," and Oliver Stone's "Pinkville," never survived the layoff. Less
important was the dramatic effect it had on awards season. The Golden Globes
became a press conference at the last minute (disaster), and there were concerns
through most of February over whether the Academy Awards would even go on as
scheduled. Happily, that won't be the case this year.
