Synopsis: Three Caballeros is the first Walt Disney feature to combine animation with live action footage. Originally conceived as World War II propaganda promoting good relations between the United States and Latin America, the film details the adventures of Donald Duck as he meets two Latin birds--Jose Carioca and Panchito,--and the three head down to Rio. The Disney studios produced a number of "anthology" feature-length cartoons during the 1940s, of which The Three Caballeros is one of the finest. With the War closing off many overseas markets, there was a pitch toward wooing Latin American viewers, which Cabalelros certainly does, with almost all of its segments taking place "south of the border."
