If you have a child who enjoys fantasy related movies then I recommend it. It has a heart in the end and teaches them a good lesson that you should be careful what you wish for. But the movie is not at all the same. This is such a funny movie, it has a really good story, and the special effects are pretty cool too. Me and my sister did NOT expect this movie to be funny at all, but we were laughing all through it. I think it has maybe three swear words in it, but definately not enough so that it should be rated PG-13. I think kids will really love to see this movie and will like to watch it again and again and again. Overall, I really loved seeing this movie!! Was this review helpful? But back to the movie. I thought it was good and entertaining and really kinda cute. the sister was stupid though. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 2 users found this helpful Walter Budwing (Josh Hutcherson) and his younger brother, Danny (Jonah Bobo), assumes they are going to be in for a tedious time when their father (Tim Robbins), who was supposed to spend the day with them, is suddenly called away on business, and gives them strict orders not to leave the house.
Their father leaves them in the care of their older sister Danny (6) and Walter (10) finds out an old ragged metal board game, Zathura. After trying ineffectively to get his brother to play the game with him, Danny starts to play on his own. From his first move, Danny realizes this is not a normal board game. His spacecraft pointer moves by itself and when it lands on a space, a card is cast out, which reads Meteor shower, take evasive action.
The house is at once punched from above by hot, molten meteors. When Danny and Walter look up through the wide hole in their roof, they discover, that they have impelled into innermost, darkest external space. And they are not unaccompanied there. As the boys try to figure out a way back home, they get some unanticipated assistance from a human astronaut (Dax Shepard), who has also lost his way. But all their attempts might become ineffective when they face their largest confront of all--a fight against a strong gravitational force into the barrenness of Zathura, the dark planet.
MPAA Rating PG for fantasy action and peril, and some language. Was this review helpful? Sign In 8 out of 9 users found this helpful Took my boys ages 4 and 6 and they LOVED it! As did I. Great night out for us! the movie kept us on the edge of our seats. My heart was pounding! I dont know if I ever saw the boys eyes blink! Yeah it caught me off-guard with the first bad word, but there was so much action after that, I dont think i even caught another one. I thought the biatch comment was hilarious! I guess we all got different values. Anyway, Go see the movie! You will love it! ITS A KIDS MOVIE!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 17 out of 21 users found this helpful We read everyones reviews of this movie before going to see it with our kids ages 4, 7, 9, and 10. It seemed people either loved it or hated it... we ALL loved it! It is not a Jumanji rip-off as some people said... Its just based on a game like Jumanji, it was more intense though I kept thinking our 4yr old was going to get scared but he couldnt take his eyes off it. So I dont know what other people are expecting from their movies but this was definetly entertaining, which is all we ask for. I could really live with out the foul language, because it really doesnt add any good to the movie, it just takes away...so if thats a problem for you all I can say is its light foul language, not like a PG13. So other than that go see it! Was this review helpful? Sign In 16 out of 17 users found this helpful Posted: 11/24/2005A review of Zathura by SecretEssence1Diva I am a mother of twin 7 year old girls and I thought they would be scared from some of the things going on. But, they LOVED it! I thought III wouldnt like it because I dont like many kids movies. I just watch them with my children for some family time. But, I TRULY enjoyed this movie!! I DID!!!
My husband didnt want to see it with us. NOW? Since WE came home and bragged about it?! HE wants to see it. This is one Im going to BUY when it comes out on DVD!!!
Yeah, there were a couple bad words I didnt like, but, since we dont make an issue of what words are bad and good, for the most part our girls didnt even NOTICE what was a bad word!! If they NOTICE, then there is a discussion. But, I wasnt surprised the movie had that, because kids are like that nowadays and the movies are just keeping up with the times!! Its sad...but true. GO SEE IT!!!!!
The boys in the movie are ADORABLE and I like that they highlighted to be careful what u wish for. The sister had a dumb part, but, it didnt take away TOO much from the dynamic of the movie. Was this review helpful? Sign In 12 out of 13 users found this helpful I took my 8 year old son and his friend to this movie last night. We had a great time! The movie was fun and full of action. It took us into a fantasy world and yes, there was a bit of a lesson about loyalty to your family. Arent we supposed to be going to the movies to have fun? To take us into a fantasy world? Well thats what this movie did.
Jumanji and this movie are alike because they were both based on the books by the same childrens author Chris van Allsburg.
And yes there is 3 bad words in the movie. get real...your kids have heard these words before. Just because they hear them, doesnt mean that they will use them. As long as you the parent teach them right from wrong, theyll know that its not nice and unacceptable to use this language. We live in a real world where nobody is perfect and we need to teach our kids to live in the this world also.
Again this was a FUN movie! will it win an oscar? NO. Will it win a prize for orginality? NO. Just relax and go have a good time and enjoy! Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 8 users found this helpful Posted: 11/19/2005A review of Zathura by Chrisincharge1 This is comment not a review.......there are alot of REVIEWS here from folks who have not even seen the movie. I read this stuff to get a review of the movie not comments from people who are just using this space to argue. Please do that elsewhere and use this spot to review the movie AFTER you have actually seen it. Was this review helpful?
