superhero is conflicted like in Hancock or the Dark Knight, but this is NOT a superhero movie. If the "heros" are just horrible people who wear masks and don't do any good, then why would we need them! This movie was just gore, violence, and the worst of mankind, no moral, no point. Spent far too much time with character and plot development. An incredibly slow, Benjamin Button like movie. Way too long and you wait all movie for something amazing to happen, only to be disappointed. They could have done so much with this movie and just went for a love triangle and posing a moral question at the end.
Pass on this movie, unless you have a 6-pack, some beer nuts, and no other movie options available. Was this review helpful? The one star I gave this movie was for the beautiful visiual effects and the hot Irish guy from" P.S. I Love You". Watchmen is by far one of the worst movies I have ever seen! I actually felt someone should be held responsable for waisting my time and money. With the economy the way it is I am not able to buy dvd's as often After this I'll be doing my homework. An hour could've been cut out to make this movie much more enjoyable. Although I did really enjoy the hero with the ink blot mask. The rest of them though looked pretty cheesy. At over 2.5 hours, it is considerably longer than the average attention span. The story is complex, multi-layered and requires the viewer to remain alert and focused for the entire time. It is dark, violent and the "heroes" exhibit disturbing, dysfunctional behavior that is far from heroic. The story goes in many directions, taking the mind to places it may not want to go. That being said: THIS FILM IS A MASTERPIECE !! GO SEE IT! As fan of the GN, I may be a bit biased, but I feel the production crew did an incredible job of bringing this story to the screen. Zack Snyder's visual style is perfectly suited for the adaption, while the subtle cultural references to past events and the paradigm shift we are currently experiencing was expertly woven into the script. My girlfriend and I have seen it twice, and we both agree that you really need to see it more than once to really take it all in. It is thought provoking and places demands on it's audience that are rare in these days of Beverly Hills Chihuahuas and Mall Cops. I will see this movie again. In fact, I'm hoping for the extended DVD with "Tales of the Black Freighter" and "Under the Hood" incorporated into the story.

This is an adult film. NOT FOR CHILDREN.
An incredibly gifted cast and crew spent almost a decade of their lives on a truly groundbreaking piece of cinema. To call this film pornographic is an insult and ultimately just exposes your own phobic and narrow minded world view. If you find this offensive, I suggest you stop watching T.V., disconnect your internet, put on blinders and block your ears because the things going on outside your door (and possibly in your own homes) are more real and "pornographic" than anything in this film.
This film is not for everyone, but I think everyone needs to see it. Was this review helpful? I love Scifi movies Star Trek, Serenity, Firefly T.V. Series, Spiderman, X-men, Hulk and stuff, but???! Oh My GOD was this bad!!! Poor Robert Downey Jr. having to be associated with this garbage, pure trash!!! My brother- InLaw and I walked with just twenty minutes left??! It was that bad. I don't even think I want to say, save it for rental day???? This really S***ed!

Much has been made of the difficulties that have faced Watchmen on its twenty five year journey to the silver screen. Several aborted attempts, numerous changes of director and cast have led many to believe that the labyrinth of a story is simply un-filmable. The original graphic novel is so dense in characterization and mythology that some of the most experienced directors working today have had to wave the white flag and veto the project. There have been some inspired casting choices over the years, along with other downright absurd(Arnie as Dr Manhattan?????!!). Fan boy’s and critics alike have been slavering at the mouth since the release date was confirmed, although one particular voice of discontent has been heard loud and clear from the eponymous author of Watchmen, Alan Moore, who famously ordered that his name be removed from the credits. So, was it worth the wait? Well, mostly, gloriously, yes.
The opening title sequence is an inspirational execution of montage which manages to cram in a good portion of the back story along to the wildly appropriate tones of Bob Dylan’s “The times they are a changing.” The film itself has a dark visceral edge to its pallet which feels totally in keeping with the film noir detective style plot-line.
Its 1984, on an alternate planet earth where Nixon is still President, the world is on the brink of nuclear apocalypse, and masked superheroes have been banned from their heroic escapades by the powers that be. The film, much like the novel, opens with the violent murder of the dubious superhero The Comedian, after which the focus shifts to the mysterious blot masked Rorsach, and his one man crusade to discover the identity of his former colleagues killer. Along the way we are introduced to the other components of The Watchmen, sweeping from conventional narrative to flashback in equal measure.
