I finished watching this movie for the 2nd time yesterday and am still astounded at the heart and soul that was portrayed by the 2 lead actors in making it. Even if you are not a fan of biopics or love stories, as I am not, watching this movie will change your mind. In real life you would not think that because of their different personalities and acting careers that Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon would make a connection. However, the chemistry and commitment between them make you truly believe that they are feeling the emotions and passion that they are portraying on screen. I have never seen such dedication in the portrayal of real people in real life and my only disappointment is that Joaquin Phoenix didn't win an Academy award, as Reece did, as it was a combined effort. Even my husband loved it...go see it!

Probably the best that Witherspoon has ever done since ever, and the best that Phoenix has done since GLADIATOR. This movie will definetly go down in history as one of the best films ever created.

Prior to watching this movie, I had this notion that country music stars were either too bland or all out boring. I knew very little about Johnny cash until I watched walk the line as a result from good word of mouth from other cinema patrons. All biopics tend to fall in a trap of not staying true or honouring the person(s) concerned on screen. Walk the line was on the contrary, It deserved the academy award nominations and it stayed from the opening minute of the film till the closing credits its a very good film Even though I see this movie as a Cinema film its worth a collectable DVD movie

I REMEMBER LISTENING TO JOHNNY CASH, JONNY HORTON AND OTHERS WHEN I WAS GROWING UP.THEN THE BEATLES AND THE STONES,THE WHO AND OTHERS HIT AND I BASICALLY STARTED LISTENING TO HARDER ROCK-BLUES,AND ROCK -N-ROLL,BUT I NEVER FORGOT ABOUT JOHNNY CASH! THE THING IS THAT I NEVER REALLY KNEW THAT MUCH ABOUT HIS LIFE BEYOND THE ENQUIRER TYPE HYPE. EVERYONE KNEW ABOUT HIS DRUG-BUST AND JAILING. HE WAS SUCH A BIG MAN THAT I THINK COVERAGE OF HIM TENDED TO FOCUS ON THIS TOUGH IMAGE OF HIS,AND NOT REALLY SHOWING THE MORE HUMAN SIDE OF HIM. I REALLY ENJOYED THIS MOVIE BECAUSE IT ATTEMPTED TO REVEAL THE MAN BEHIND THE MYTH,THE GENESIS OF HIS INNER CHARACTER,OF THE PAIN WHITCH IT SEEMS WE ALL AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER HAVE TO SUFFER IN THIS THING CXALLED LIFE.JOAQUIN AND REESE WERE A PERFECT MATCH,DELIVERING ASTOUNDING PERFORMANCES!,ALL THE MORE AMAZING WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT THEY PERFORMED THE VOCALS THEMSELVES. MY ONLY COMPLAINT WOULD BE THAT THE MOVIE WAS TO SHORT,I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE SEEN SOME COVERAGE OF HIS NASHVILLE SKYLINE WORK WITH BOB DYLAN,PROBALLY MY FAVORITE ALBUM,FILLED WITH MUSICAL JEMS.JOHNNY HAD AN IMMENSE INFLUENCE ON MYSELF AND THE WHOLE MUSIC WORLD.IM HAPPY THAT HE FOUND BOTH LOVE AND GOD BEFORE HE THREW OFF THIS MORTAL COIL.I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO ANY MUSIC LOVER,AND ALSO TO STUDENTS OF THE HUMAN CONDITION AS IT STANDS AS A TESTAMENT TO THE POWER OF LOVE OVER THE WORST THAT LIFE SOMETIMES PUTS UPON OUR PATH.

I agree that this is simply worth every dollar it got at the box office. Its an amazing movie. A lot of my friends dont know anything about Johnny Cash, and this movie is everything about everything he went through. Even though I wasnt alive then to know it. I think Joaquin Phoenix was born to play Johnny Cash. I mean, he had the look and everything correct, I dont know about the voice, or how he lip sync, or even if it was lip sync or not, its just too awesome. After I watched this movie, I finally understood Johnny Cash more. I mean, how could anyone not understand everything about what he went through, and why Elvis got him addicted to drugs. Oops. Did I say too much? Ok, thats it. Im through. Im going to end my mindless rabble here. But before I do, let me just say that this is one of those must see movies. Its that great of a movie.

Having grown up with a strict father near the old homeplace of Mother Maybelle Carter, we were only allowed to listen to Country Music as young girls. Now as an adult who has moved away from the country, I saw this movie and hope that younger generations will understand that not everything is handed to you on a silver spoon and life doesnt give you exactly what you want when you want it unless you truly pursue it. Sometimes that takes time and in this case 12 years. I think Joaquin Phoenix and Reece Witherspoon portray this couple with such passion. I was truly disappointed that they were not give much higher recognition for their performances. This movie does touch the heart of every warm being on this earth, as it shows what we all truly seek.... our true soul mate....My hat is off to the directors and to the actors and actresses but also to the Family of Johnny and June... thank you for sharing this and allowing us, the public, to see the love shared between these two Country Music icons....

This is the absolute best movie I saw all year. That dispite the many really fun, exciting and heartwarming movies that drew me to the theater. Joaquin Phoenix gave a riviting heartfelt performance and showed himself to be more than the typical one dimensional actor. Reese Witherspoon? What can I say? A Joy Bell. She asoluteley deserved the recognition she received in the hunt for Oscer. But, what a shame that a movie about a guy who is in the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Nashville Song Writers Hall of Fame, and that was portrayed with such outstanding perfomances, was so overshadowed by the politically correct drivel that pours forth from the hills of Hollywood these days. If only Johnny had slept with Elvis, Walk The Line could have swept the Oscars.

I loved the movie!!!!!could not wait till it went out on dvd, purchased the day of sale...Bonus to dvd included a cd that had 5 songs from movie that you can listen to while driving. Cd brings movie back to you while driving. Joaguin and Reese did a wonderful job telling the tale of Johnny and June. If you have not seen go buy the cd, never mind renting. You will want to watch again and again.

Joaquin Phoenix put more of himself than any actor I have seen to to play the part of another famous person. He was personally picked by Johnny Cash to play his part before his untimely death. Phoenix did his own singing, guitar playing and had Cashs movements down excellent, right down to the cross eyed distant stare. Reese Witherspoon also did an excellent job of portraying June Carter-Cash. This was an all around wonderful movie. If you havent seen it then you dont know what you are missing. Arlin Mayer Pasadena, Ca.

The true life story of Johnny Cash (Joaquin Phoenix) is truly amazing. You see all the struggles and all the heartbreak. Johnny Cash started singing as a young boy, to try to escape the pain in his life. When he was in the air force he wrote the song Folsom prison that eventually helped him become a star. He was soon singing duets with the very well known and beautiful June Carter (Reese Witherspoon). Johnny unfortunately got involved with serious drugs and alcohol, which led to Vivian (Ginnifer Goodwin) his first wife to leave him. They couldnt have found a better actor than Joaquin Phoenix to play Johnny Cash, he was absolutely brilliant and Reese Witherspoon was the perfect fit for the role of June Carter, she was fabulous. Both Joaquin and Reese did an excellent job of singing and performing, they made the songs come to life once again. This movie is sure to win awards.

Many biographies make great films, and Walk The Line is heartfelt and memorable. Joaquin Phoenix stars in this story of Johnny Cashs rise to stardom and fame from the Arkansas farmland he grows up in. We see flashbacks of pain and heartache, as Johnny and his brother Jack try to adapt to their fathers abandonment.Heartache knows no feeling, and soon Johnny has to deal with his brothers untimely passing as well. In the film, we see how pressures of fame wear celebrities down to exhaustion. John becomes no exception, as his hidden scars and pain drive him to the party scene. He goes on tour, meets up with June Carter, and falls madly in love with her(though they both have spouses and families). During one performance, he suddenly collapses on stage. June gets worn down by his many advances, and realizes she does care and love him. After time, she marries John. John and June adjust to married life, but suddenly get a surprise dinner visit. His father appears from nowhere, degrading him. Showing bitterness and anger, John demands the answer to question, Where were You?. It is at this period in life, John decides that he has much to be lucky for. The film ends with him going to rehab, and turning a positive new page in life with June by his side.

Not really knowing the story of Johnny Cash (being too young), but liking his music enough to be intrigued by him, I went to see the film. I was not disappoited by the script, the acting, the direction or the cast. It was a good telling of what was a story about one of musics all time greats, but I felt it dwelled far too much on the downward spiral of Johnnys drug habit. Fair enough, it was a vital part of the plot and a huge part of what made Johnny Cash the man he was, but I felt it was at a cost to what else they could have included in the film. Like I stated before, I dod not know much about the man to begin with and wanted to know more about his life than simply his beginnings, his love of June Carter and his drug addictions. For me, the film ended too abruptly with his marriage to June and it left me wnting to know more about what he did with the rest of his life and his music career. This gripe aside, it was a great film and fully deserving of the 4 stars I have given. Well worth the price of a ticket...
