I watched this movie just to see Jonathan Rhys Meyers, because I loved him in Julie Taymors Titus. What I got was something totally unexpected! Im only 15 and unfamiliar with the real glam rockers, so I wasnt destracted by any similarities between David Bowie and Jonathans character, which seemed to turn some people off of the film. At any rate , the lives of the characters are like a train wreck that you just cant look away from, and its all completely believable. My favorite part has to be the soundtrack! I own it and its constantly in my CD player! Jonathan even does some of his own singing, and I must say that his voice is just like him beautiful, raw, and strange! Was this review helpful? Intelligence, beauty, mystifying plot and great acting! And this film has each with plently to spare. Takes you straight into the era of colour, glitter and outrageous clothes. Todd Haynes combines all elements of cinematography and human emotions to relay the story of a somewhat Bowie-esque rock star named Brian Slade and his rise to stardom and ripple like effects on the people who became connected with him. Amazing acting by Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Ewan McGregor. Also helps that J.R.M. has amazing gorgeous adrogynous looks, one of my favorite parts! The depth of emotion that these characters present draw you into the movie, hungering for more of the story. This truly brings to life the 70's glam rock era in the UK. Amazing amazing film, best i have ever seen. You have to see it, it will affect you in a way that no other film has before Was this review helpful?
