This is literally one of the best movies i have ever seen. This movie provokes ideas that some people may not like, but i thought that by doing so the makers of the movie are bold in our easily-offended world. The movie is set in a futuristic England, where a conservative party took advantage of an epidemic crisis and took complete and total control over the country. Gays, blacks, liberals and such are persacuted without mercy, and there is a constant shadow of fear that you can sense in the movie. But a masked mastermind that goes only by the name of V has decided to change that, and with the help of Evey Hammond, his plans take place over the course of a year. The movie is deftly interwound with several inner plots Vs own personal revenge for what was done to him, Eveys fear of her past, the relationship that eventually blossoms between V and Evey, and, of course, the overshadowing political situation. Like V said, he is victim and villian. And unlike other superhero movies, where theres nothing not to like about the hero, V does things you cant possibly admire. and you never see his face the mask never comes off, as it does in other super hero films. There are times when you cant tell if hes either amazingly brilliant or downright insane. This movie was awesome. I loved it and it was worth seeing again. and again. Again, it provokes things that some people may not like. so if your one of those people dont watch it.

What a great song for the end credits. Its time for revolution! Great movie. Amazing performance from Hugo Weaving. I only wish Natalie Portman would have used her real accent. Good performance from her but her best is in Garden State. This movie really made me think. I am so glad it didnt tell me how to think. It is a great warning to us all of what can happen if we become fearful or indifferent.

I bought this movie when it first came out on DVD, without ever watching it before. The trailers made is sound like a different movie than what I saw. Unlike most situations like that, I was was plesently suprised. It was in fact a better movie than I expected. I truely love the storyline. I have since actually accuired a couple of the books ( I say books because they are bigger than our american comics), and found that it was filmed almost exactly like the books. For those that think this has anything to do with 9-11 or anything that has happened in American history should know that the author of the books isnt from the good old USA, and, also, wrote these some time before our tragety. So therefor we, Americans, shouldnt think everything media realated is about our history and future. I am a big fan of Natalie Portman, but I think this is the best role she has played. I did see, however, that her accent did sway from time to time but I didnt find it hinder her performance either. I give a huge bravo to Hugo Weaving on his portrail of V. He made an emotionless mask show emotion, which isnt something that most actors could pull off. Even though the mask was smiling you could almost see the pain in its smile, awsome job. I am glad I bought it, and plan on watching it several more times.

Yes its me again. I just had to get a few more things to get out.For all of you that think this is based on real life, you have a few issues.Like youre psychotic, dellusional, paranoid, idiotic, or maybe all of the above. This is a work of fiction. If you dont know what that is than how about you open a book once and awhile. If you dont know what a book is,well, please follow these directions.Step one-get a gun.Step 2-load it.Step 3-stick it in your mouth(barrel pointed towards you,we dont want anybody smart hurt).Step 4-now this is the most important, pull the trigger. Then we can all be safe from your stupidity. For all of you that think this movie, being post 9-11,makes terroists into heros,it doesnt.Terrorist in todays context hurt and kill innocent people.V only did harm to those that were part of a tyranical govt and urged the people to fight for their freedom. If you feel theyre similarities to an event in the real world youre right. But it happened over 200 years ago.It was called the Revolutionary War.Heard of it?If you havent or dont believe people should fight against a opressive govt than follow the simple directions above so the rest of us can let out a huge sigh of relief. This was an incredible, well portrayed, well acted, well directed work of fiction based on a comic book that was also fictional. It was a story created to make you think.Thats all.Nothing more.If you cant manage to think then you know what to do,...or maybe not.Just get the history flunky to do you before they do themselves.Again to everyone who has this belief there was a hidden message about the modern world in this movie,WAKE UP OR SHUT THE @ UP!

The main character V is fictional, of course. The future that is portrayed in the film however, is not too hard to comprehend. I can see with the direction the world is going, this future is a very real possibility. The movie has plenty of acton, emotion and symbolisim-a real nice blend. There is love, hate, remorse, and of course Vengence. Remember, this movie is about an idea, not character V. By the end of the film you do realize that very point. I find the movie as thought provoking as it was entertaining. If you want to see the Matrix, dont see this. This is a much more thoughtful film, and one you should see. Dont pay attention to the one or two star reviews, they are just from simple minded people and simply do not understand the idea. -Matt

I know that Im writing this review months after the fact - but I cannot help myself, after reading some of the reviews posted. The bottom line? Excellent story, wonderful acting. Cerebral. Not for those looking for mindless violence and sex. I find it ridiculous that someone could read anti-Bushism into this movie, unless they themselves see Bush as a raving, intolerant lunatic who is bent on opressing his own people. The only similarity between Bush and the Chancellor is that they are both in a position of power. Oh, and theyre both Christian (or at least the Chancellor pretends to be). Big whoop. The similarities end there. This movie does not glorify terrorism. If there was any terrorist faction in this movie, it was the government. A government which does not respect and value its people is a danger - and it goes against the very grain of democracy, and the ideal of equal rights for all. If anyone says that this movie is anti-American, then they are saying that America is intolerant, dictatorial and against freedom of speech. This movie has nothing to do with any one particular nation - instead it pertains to a recurring problem - corruption of the powerful, and the ongiong struggle to bring down opressive systems. It is a HUMAN story. There is no nation which can say that it has never had a similar political landscape (though not as extreme in most cases). There is no one on this earth who has not seen or felt the effects of fear and power being used to control the many to the benefit of the few. We have the right to demand that our leaders represent us properly, use our resources properly, and look to our best interest. Dont get caught up in trying to determine who the Chancellor is modeled after - youll miss the whole point. Most enjoyable movie Ive seen in a year or so. Entertained the grey matter, not just the eyes. Rent or buy it, and see for yourself.

The best satiricial film I have seen in awhile. The plot was so real, and the way the characters acted was truly amazing. This movie makes you think, and thats what I loved about it. It made you wonder where our world was going to be in the next 20 years. I really believe that this movie is an acurate example of governmant control gone horribly wrong. The world has seen many situations like this and I am sure we will again. So I think it was a very good movie, put together well, and directed well. I highly reccomend it!

The theory was good, the formula was not. Why is it that the bad guy is always so over the top? The villians in this case, are The Conservative Party who have taken over a futuristic England, which is recovering from a war (which has supposedly completely consumed America). The overall feel was too Orewells 1984 for me. You never actually saw the Chancelor except over a rediculously larger than life TV monitor, until the final scene. He is usually spouting his hatred for truth and justice through the screen, in a grossly overacted manner. The Chancelor is a H!tleresque Conservative who makes certain to drink his daily helping of conservative Haterade. Homosexuals and Liberals are routinly tortured and killed, and anyone who dares question the Conservative Party is Blackbagged and never heard from again. Hugo Weaving does a pretty good job of expression through a mask, although sometimes its a bit commically over the top. Not really his fault though, just that the writing was so bad in parts. Natilie Portmans performance was comical, sadly she cant be let off with a Bad script excuse, she was bad the whole time. This movie had the potential for 4 stars. The action scenes were generally well coreographed, although at times the blood spray was kinda cheesy. Too bad it was pulled down to a mere 2 stars by the pathetic attempt at making some sort of statement. Especially since at the end, you still werent sure what that statement was.

The story plot for this movie moved like poetry! It was a beautiful story full of suspence, romance and action! I was worried when the movie started and the hero was a guy in a mask, but it only deepened his character. Natalie Portman was a brilliant actress for her role as Evee. I loved the soundtrack. I liked how similar it was to The Count of Monte Cristo, and all the unintentionaly funny remarks. If you liked Count of Monte Cristo, and have a thing for guys in masks, or Natalie Portman, this is the movie to see! I cant wait to see it again, or better yet, go out and buy a copy when it comes out!

This is the best and most artistic and intellgent film ever made, what many of the 1-star review morons who have written drivel on this site dont get is that it is a UK film, NOT American, and all the characters are British, the Chancellor is based on Margaret thatcher and Oswald Mosley, not Bush, but these trailer park bible-pumpers who have nerv ventured outside hillbilly-land dont seem to understand the US is not the only English speaking country in the world, although judging by their grammar and spelling, that designation is questionable! It had American writers, director, it is true, but was filmed entirely in UK and Berlin and produced by British-German company. I recently met an American who found the german film Downfall about !@ offensive because he thought it was making fun of George Bush! Duh!!! Go back to watching endless re-runs of Dukes of hazzard!

Perhaps the most enduring statement made in V For Vendetta, the new action film from the creators of The Matrix, is that artists use lies in order to tell the truth. Deeply entrenched with political undertones told through a cleverly thought out parable V For Vendetta is a captivating piece of fiction that rings inherently true in a time of war, conservative politics, and terrorism. In the films uncompromising vision of the future America has fallen to the status of a third world country and Britain has regained its dominance as the leading world power, but not without a heavy price. A totalitarian government has exercised its dominance through fear of the deadly viruses and violence that is decimating the remaining superpowers. Quickly though it is revealed that something is inherently wrong, it is a place ruled by curfews, censorship, and corrupt politicians.... Read the rest of my review @ www.movietack.net

This movie was brilliant. Thats all I can Say. It was symbolic, Anarchistic yes but so much more. It was about how an idea can bring about the start and end of anything. As V sates Ideas are bulletproof which was the most moving statement in the movie for me. More thought provoking than moving actually but hey you get that. There was one thing which did not entirely agree with me, the statement People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people. In an ideal world no one should be afraid of anything, but i guess this is put in to make the choice of whether we percieve V as a hero or an anarchist or from my point of view, something in the middle. The matrix trilogy changed the way i percieved the world , this film will change the way i think forever.

The problem i find with the reviews on here is there are 10 five star reviews for every idiot that gets on and puts a 1 star because either they didnt understand it or thought that they understood it so they just shut their minds and didnt read into the story. One review said that it was anti-american. Umm...this takes place in a fictional future in BRITAIN!!! not america. not anti american terrorists. not badmouthing america in any way. its a freaking story about a corrupt dictatorship that got overthrown by an idea. The elegance that this movie entwines is simply stunning. Even if the bang bang action wasnt going on it was still a dramatic and deeply moving script. the entrage of symbolism and metaphoria were savory and all in the right places. But please if youre stupid and dont understand the movie, dont tell others not to see it. People should be able to see it at least and make their own decisions as to whether they thought it was good or not.

I didnt wanna see this movie but I saw it twice first time in french with my boyfriend who immediately after regretted to have invited me and wasted 16 euros (I saw it in France), and second with a friend who wanted to see the original version. Why I really disliked -for the plot I found it pretty hard to see were the movie were leading. The story lacks so much depth. the romance is I think inappropriate, its supposed to add to the film something more than just action but it gets ridiculous. Had not the people in the front row been laughing when the story was totally pathetic, Id have fallen asleep I was always waiting for an impending something to make the film meaningful but it never came. -for Portmans performance I did not like this actress anyway, I think she always overacts. You wondered if she could be worse than in the last Star Wars? The answer is YES, go to see V and youll know what I mean. The first time I saw the movie in french version, I could only judge her expressions, gestures like always, shes too much(for exemple when she cries). When I saw it in OV, it was laborious to stand her english accent shes always in and out (where could have she heard english people talking like that?). I rated 1 star for Hugo Weavings outstanding performance it musta been really hard to act behind a mask but his voice is so expressive that you dont need to see his face to know how he feels. He truly saved the film (okay he plays the hero but thats not a reason for being the only one to act!). Hes really a great actor. The Wachowski brothers have definitely lost the thing after the first Matrix. We could have thought it was just because of the sequels problems (no more ideas, need to find an end where theres not...) but no. I advised you not to go if -you liked the comic -you dont have spare money and time to waste. If youre still curious about it, wait to rent the dvd, at least on your couch you can sleep!
