They took a step too far with some of the overacting, especially on the plane. But I have to agree with some of the other people here, the part on the ground, accurate or not, was represented well, although im not sure they were that efficient in reality. Told in real time, the film re-creates the trip, from takeoff to the hijacking to the realization by those on board that their plane was part of an attack against the United States.
Now that I have seen both 9 11 film ( United 93 and World Trade Center) I can finally compare the two film.
United 93 is only based of fact sadly no one survived to tell there story of what truly had happened. There is no false information just what they know about what know.
World Trade Center only revolves around the two men who were trapped underneath the fallen building. These men have survived to tell the true story of how that really happened .
Both movies I have given 4 out of 5 stars but I think that if you want to see the better 9 11 film that would have to World Trade Center.
I liked World Trade Center better because it had more emotion you felt so bad for these people and there families. And the one thing on your mind was will these men survive. With Untied 93 you know that it will not be a happy ending.
I know that I gave both films four stars but I dont want you to think that I did not like this movie. Because I really did. I just think that if you want to see a true 9 11 film wait for World Trade Center to come out on DVD in December.
Now enough about comparing film even though it fun I want to say that the scenes on board the plane switch with inside the National Air Traffic Control Center, airport towers, air traffic stations, and a military command rooms. And the thing that I liked most was that many of the people who were in the control center and air traffic station actually played them selves.
United 93 is a great movie and tells a lesson you dont have to be strong or fast or smart to be a hero. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 9/8/2006A review of United 93 by critic-all Greengrass did an excellent job in directing this film with the shakey camera work and no-name actors that it felt like watching the actual events unfold right before your eyes. The fact that United 93 was filmed in actual time only added to the realism of the events that took place on September 11, 2001. Although the outcome of the hijacking of the plane was known, the passengers of that flight come so close to regaining control of the situation that it gives a little hope and makes you think that it is actually going to end the way it should have. Excellent film that should be watched with a loved one! Was this review helpful? The thing thats so great about flight 93 is that the people who were aboard it, came together and made sure they werent going down without a fight. Flight 93 is in my opinion the one flight that didnt get very much publicity, and the most forgotten about. I didnt know very much about this flight untill I got to see it on the big screen. This flight was in my opinion the most successful. Meaning that, it was the only one single plane that didnt hit its target and I think that the producers and director did an excellent job of capturing that. I hope that you all are able to rent it and watch it, with your close friends and family. It truly is one of the best.
RIP September 11th, 2001 Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 8/8/2006A review of United 93 by Stellar993 This was a truly great movie for a truly great cause. Now that enough time has passed since 9-11, I think its a great idea to let the public know exactly what went on in the only plane that day that the heroic passangers did not let hit its target. I was shocked at how good the movie was, especially since everyone already knew what the ending would be. It was done unbelieveably respectfully- no glamorization, no big name actors, no political bullst hollywood tends to spew out in their movies. It was just the facts and the events how they actually happened (except that air traffic control suspected United 93 was haijacked but at the end it said no one knew until minutes after it crashed). I think it did a great job of keeping up suspense although you know what ultimately happens. I wish it had gone into some detail with what was going on with the other hijacked planes, but then it shouldnt have been called United 93. Kudos hollywood (for once)! Was this review helpful? the way to the passingers aboard. These are the possible ways some of the
passingers tried to take control and almost made it.No one will really know what happend on flight93 but every other aircraft on September 11, hit
something to where 93 did not, so it only gos to show some persons were
not going to let that happen again. The horror for the passingers and the courage of the others shows what may have happend in this film. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful United 93 is a film which has the attention of the entire country. The film is on the tip of everyones tongues, but no one is quite sure what to make of the new Paul Greengrass movie which tells the tragic story of what happened on board the fourth high jacked plane on September 11th, 2001. Greengrass has constructed a truly momentous film which harkens back all those painful memories which had faded since the terrorists attacks five years ago. Finally the heroic story of Flight 93 will be told to millions of people who may not know exactly what happened on board the plane that missed its target in Washington D.C. thanks to the brave passengers of the flight.
There is no doubt that Greengrass film is a patriotic tale, which showed the courage of the passengers who fought to stop the terrorists until the very last moment of their lives. Be that as it may I began to wonder how the film would stand up if the picture were a work of fiction. Now of course this is an entirely hypothetical theory since the events of that tragic day were incredibly real, but nevertheless the film caused this thought to cross my mind. Without the context of what happened on September 11th and its immediate aftermath would United 93 be as strong a film as it manages to be? The answer is quite simply, no. Much is left to the fact that we know what happened and that these events are still fresh in our mind, allowing us to bring information to the picture. Had this been a work of fiction these holes in the storyline would be torn to shreds by critics and audiences alike......

Hope this was helpful Was this review helpful? Sign In 8 out of 9 users found this helpful This was an extraordinarily powerful movie that was made even better by not having big name stars. Even knowing the outcome of the story does not dull the senses and the tension that is pervasive throughout the movie. At times, it brought tears to my eyes. The villians are not over done and the heros are not elevated to mythic porportions. The movie is well paced and shot almost like a documentary. The conclusion is tastefully done, avoiding the temptation to do otherwise. Many of the characters played themselves, which made the movie even more meaningful. At the conclusion, one could have heard a pin drop. People quietly left their seats and the theater respectfully. It was if they were leaving graveside services. This movie is a tribute to bravery and underscores how senseless the murders were on 9-11. Every american should see the movie, especially young people. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Dont listen to a reviewer named pc, heshe is obviously a communist and should go back to mother russia. This movie is amazing. It literally makes you feel like youre one of the passengers or one of the people working in the control tower. A couple scenes are pretty intense, so wait until you know you can handle it before seeing it. My only complaint is that the movie didnt have any sort of message, it just showed what happened on 9-11. Was this review helpful? I felt nothing but hatrid for the terrorists as soon as i saw them. This was a very accurate portrayal of the ill fated flight that only just missed its destination thanx to the heroic band of passengers who were not about to let their lives go out without both saving the white house but also going out in a blaze of glory. They all knew that they were going to die, so they decided to get their own back. This i found myself cheering on. I have never shouted at the screen as much as i did with this film. I wanted them to win the day and if needs be kill those terrorists who hi-jacked their plane and they nearly succeeded to. I also felt the shock and fear of their families who were both terrified about the prospect of losing their loved ones but also when most said that they must fight back.
United 93 is THE film of that heroic flight that nearly made it and the story that deserves to be told of the heros onboard.
BE WARNED!!!!! This does contain very graphic images of the other crashes (the world trade center towers and the pentagon so if you were upset during the scenes that were transmitted during the attacks of 9.11, make sure you have boxes of tissues ready because you will need them, i kid you not! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 5/17/2006A review of United 93 by Inland-Empire-Sandy The summer after 9-11 I drove back east with my mother and we managed to find the flight 93 crash site. At that time, it was still just a big hole in the ground, overgrown with grass and weeds and surrounded by trees. Very peaceful. Large numbers of people had already made their pilgimages to the site, and there was a large crowd there when we arrived. People were writing messages and memorials on anything they could find, including the metal guardrails that kept onlookers from venturing onto the field near the impact zone. What I remember most is how reverent I felt and how quiet the crowd was. Reading the messages made me proud to be an American and filled me with hope for a civilization I feared was collapsing. Visitors had left cherished keepsakes. . .medals, firefighter, police and military gear. The brave souls on that flight entered eternity at a remote field in Shanksville, Pa. as heroes. . .and thats why I had to see this movie. Now, I expect after reading some of the previous reviews that there will be those who will scoff at my words and call me jingo-istic, but thats their problem. This movie is a worthy homage to the people who perished that awful day. FORGET THE POLITICS FOR ONCE!!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful After watching United 93 this past weekend many things came to mind. Not only my sympathy for those who lost their lives but for those left mourning the loss of their loved ones due to others selfish acts.True, we will never know what true events happened in that plane because noone is here to clarify those facts. Yet true it is that that plane was the only one not to hit the target placed by those terrorists. GOD bless those poor victims who in their last will made an attempt to try and save themselves and millions of others on ground. I think leaving this memory in the past as others say is not only wrong but meaningless. It is events like these that we do not let die even if it causes pain because it reminds us how as the UNITED STATES of AMERICA we do endure many enemies whom would like to hurt us in any way they can and our government must do their all to never let their guard down again. No one could of told these events were to happen but they perhaps in many ways could have been prevented had security been tighter as they oppose to be now! It is sicking to know that there are people out there not only from different countries that have a sicking image that taking others lives is some how GODly when I know the GOD I worship does not condone taking others lives much less your own. Was this review helpful? Sign In 9 out of 10 users found this helpful I missed the first 5 minutes but what I saw was outstanding. It deserves all
the accolades that have been written about it. 93 may not win a little
statuette but its well done. Too bad we knew the ending . Was this review helpful? Sign In 5 out of 70 users found this helpful Btw for all those that loved this movie i cant believe they even made this in the first place! Did you know the plane was never found?!! The calls made were completely unrealistic and the movie is american propaganda..i cant believe people went to watch it!?!! dont believe me - watch the documentaries made on flight 93. No such thing as terrorist attacks on the flight, all of it made up - It never happened, was all staged, must say though it made for good entertainment..
Oh and this movie accomplished nothing. Was this review helpful? Sign In 6 out of 36 users found this helpful First and foremost, Mr. Andrew and Allu Ahkbar, save the childish antics for the playground please. This isnt the WB, BET or UPN networks so we dont need or want to see uneducated dialogue. Lets keep all comments in an adult perspective, shall we? Thanks.
Anyway, yes 9.11 was tragic and its nice to pay tribute to the passengers of flight 93, but this movie isnt that great and more importantly, its time to move on. Tragedies have and continue to occur on a daily basis around the world. But the general public just shake their heads, make hollow comments of concern like gee thats awful, and then change the channel to watch American Idol. Are any movies in the pipeline that tell the story and pay tribute to the people being massacred by the thousands in Sudan or the North Koreans being starved to death by their psychotic government? Not likely.
More pressing issues are at hand, namely Iraq and Afghanistan. As an active member of the military, I can justifiably say, the war on terror has been led terribly awry by our inept civilian leadership. Bin Laden is still at large and Iraq is a violent mess (not because of any media spin, but because thats the reality on the ground). Are we going to continue to dwell on the past and leave the fate of this country to a bungling administration or are we going to demand from them, thoughtful and meaningful action, in this war on terror?
