The story line is not as good as the first one but the action's better. Only thing is it is kind of cheesy and there's more cussing thrown in just for fun. Other than that, it's still really cool. The plot (if it existed) was just a rip-off from the first movie, the dialogue was cliche (at best), and the humor was aimed at 13-year old boys. Dont get me wrong, who doesnt enjoy a good fart joke? But...20 or so later robot farts lose their appeal.
Even Fox was very lame in this one. I enjoyed her character in the first movie, but in this one she was just lip gloss and butt shots with no substance.
The effects were rushed and the action scenes were ridiculous. This was a total let down. Was this review helpful? Sign in 1 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 7/15/2009A review of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen by Tuefel0 If you enjoy it when a driector feels the need to take a family friendly movie that you could feel comfortable taking your children to (I am talking 8-14 years old) and adding sexual inuendoes, direct use of drugs, racial stereotyping, adding unecessary cussing then see this movie.
Transformers 1 was an outstanding movie. They did such a great job. The dialogue was well done. However, part 2 he felt the need to make references to black people as being ignorant (inability to speak in an intelligible manner), uneducated (unable to read) which completely takes away from the movie. He also decided the need to added completely unnecessary cursing. I have no problem with cussing in movies...WHEN IT FITS! It seemed as though it was a requirement and they just threw it in. Almost like a 15 year old who cusses when his parents are not around, they just sound ignorant.
It was not necessary for the boy's mother to get high on marajauna. Why was that added?
The overall trend of the movie was as if it were an attempt to see what families find as acceptable and what they can get away with throwing in.
Those things aside, the action was overused to a point where it was difficult to keep up with. It was as if they tried to throw a script together that they knew was not fitting well and filled the gaps with rediculously extensive action scenes that nearly send you into an epiliptic fit...even if you are not epiliptic. The military base had the two flags of the USA and UK flying next to each other, and the British flag was UPSIDE DOWN. Some of the humor and profanity was a bit over the top for kids but i enjoyed it. The special effects were very good, and enjoyed the characters. I think the voice acting was much better in this film than the first. I loved the characters, bringing back some of the ones from the cartoon such as Ravage, Soundwave and Devestater. It was a bit hard for me to be excited at frist but by the third act i loved it. Was this review helpful? I know that Mr. Bay has a lot of fans and his movies make tons of money for the studios, however if you have seen any of his movies in the last 15 years you have pretty much seen them all. Transformers 2 is basically the worst of all of the movies that Bay has directed. Unlike the Rock, Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, Pearl Harbor, Armagedon, The Island and even the original Transfomers, There is no story to back up the explosions and slow motion. Basically this movie is repetative and boring if you haven't seen it yet, wait until it comes out on cable. WRITERS Please note: when I say FUN!, I do not mean silly or childish. EXAMPLE; Ang Lee's HULK movie very depressing - 2nd HULK movie 90% more entertaining and FUN! STAR WARS movies were all FUN, without being silly or childish (nor ignorant and profane) SPIDER-MAN movies ALL FUN (well 3 a little less) STYLE, ACTION a PINCH of DRAMA, BIT OF JOKES..superb!
Robots speaking GHETTO SLANG err..ok, but PROFANITY definetly NOT OK! again cursing and fowl speak is all around us, must we go there!!!? Michael Bay seems to think people will have carry-over emotions from the first movie, but I really didn't care about Megan Fox's character at all. Beautiful girl, but little more than eye candy. I understood the story line, but this was way too long for the story being told. And I do have a problem with the twins, not so much for the gangsta-speak, but for the vulgarity in their bickering. Of course parents are taking their kids to this. They expected it to be similiar in tone to the first movie. I'm still irritated. Was this review helpful? Change not good in this movie; 1st movie impressive;; 2nd garbage...but I cried when Sam was believed to be dead thinking of soldiers died before 4th of July.
Hmm, not entertaining for PG13, crap actually. There were parts I though dragged out a little long. I actually found myself looking at my watch about 2 hours in...never a good sign. Still, it was a decent "popcorn" movie. Could have done without seeing Torturro's backside or the humping robot (ok, we get it, Megan Fox is hot.) Too much forced humor that ultiimately fell flat. Oh well, not great, not horrible. Was it entertaining? Yes. So was "The Fast and the Furious", "The Transporter", "Wolverine" - None of those are great movies.
By Great I mean 4 1/2 out of 5 stars, 5 out of 5, or 4 out of 4, etc. The fans have rated this 4 1/2 out of 5, critics 2 out of 5. For those who think the critics are just "hating"
They gave movies like Iron Man, and Batman 4, and 5 stars, just like the fans did. Because those were great movies in the "Super Hero" genre.
Don't confuse entertaining with Great. "SlumDog" was not that entertaining to me, but it was thought provoking, and also a great movie from just about all angles. Which is what makes a movie great, the whole picture.
On Acting ALONE you have to deduct 1 star, if not 1 1/2 automatically. Can anyone even argue that? The other star comes off (making this a good but average movie) for the Story Telling. No, it doesn't have to follow the transformers universe, that's not what older fans of the cartoon are saying. The last Batman movie certainly did follow the comic book origin guideline to a Tee. But it was a great movie.
Good story telling comes from the script, writers, actors, director, etc all meshing together correctly. Tell me what Michael Bay film has ever been a GREAT movie.
You remember them, Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, Armegeddon, The Rock, Pearl Harbor, The Island. There's one theme here...movies that seem very cool and awesome. But you can have cool, awesome, funny, and also be great. I prefer to give the top shelf its credit. This aint it. Was this review helpful?
