I was looking forward to this movie - usually enjoy movies that are not common fare, but I found it to be unbelievable in many respects. Perhaps they should have shown the character as a man prior to unveiling her him as a woman - or have gotten an actress that we dont know from tv. I kept seeing Felicity - not Stanley. The trany group portrayed was over the top and stereotypical. This movie was just not excellent in any regard. I want my - and time back.

Academy Award level performance by Felicity Huffman. A woman, Felicity, plays a man who wants to be a woman. Reminicent that way of Victor-Victoria. Unusual possibilities of humor are obvious and well as serious nature of the situation. He-she finds he has a son just before change-operation scheduled to make him an ersatz her. Rest of film is travel by car genre across country with him-her and the stubborn son who doesnt know hes traveling with his bio dad. He is in dress and actions of a her during this journey. Great small roles by his -her mother and dad and by the son also. Excellent script, nice photography and supurb acting by all of the cast makes this a must see film well worth the time and money. Dont miss it.

Movie has had a lot of buzz from award shows. Yet, the young son fairly well steals the show. This movie was not as affecting as expectations would lead one to believe. We found it to be pretty flat emotionally. It was a brave film though. Some of the characters were not believable in their actions or interactions - ahem - nough said about that subject. The better moments were those of comedy and there is a fair amount of that. The acting was good. Most of our posse were glad to have seen it, but some had wished they had waited to rent though.

When i saw this movie, I got so captivted and very emotional. Besides the excelent and remarkable writing of Mr. Duncan, Felicity Huffman did an amazing perfomance, the best I have seen in years from an actress. Her voice, her external appearance, her internal struggle for becoming a real woman, no one could do it better. Mrs. H. Macys perfomance and Duncans fil is so out of the ordinary transexual movies we have seen before. Felicity has a well deserved oscar nom this season. Amazing movie

Impressively realized on all levels, this transgender spin on the road trip boasts an extraordinary central performance. I think that the movies soul is with Huffman. Speaking in a low voice, her posture as stiff as her vocabulary, her eyes a pool of sadness and hope, she turns this small, resonant film into a cry from the heart.
