That incredibly cliché plot aside the younger cop even exclaims He had two days to retirement Ill get Masters no matter what it takes! its still a good script and the human interactions are believable.
But the car chase. All of this is built around a freeway car chase that will, as the J. Geils Band once said, Blow Your Face Out. And this was the eighties, so I have no idea how they did some of these stunts without computers. When cars are racing along the aqueducts and jamming up the sides to run at 45-degree angles and then crashing back down but still going, thats a stuntman driving it. When an eighteen-wheeler goes into a jackknife on a crowded freeway and is sweeping cars ahead of the wildly swinging trailer, those are all stuntmen in those cars. Crazy, underpaid, impossible to insure, probably coked-out stuntmen. Its worth the Wang Chung soundtrack its worth Defoe wasting time at the sexy mime bar, to see this car chase. And you know what? The chase is crucial to the plotit advances the story. How often does that happen? Was this review helpful? The acting was stilted, the story was contrived, and the entire feel was artificial. The main character played by Peterson always looked like he was posing for a photo layout. I love Dafoe, but even he couldn't save this movie. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-2 of 2 Per Page | ||
