It's one of those flicks where something goes wrong and your screaming "no" and then something goes right and your jumping up and down. Was this review helpful? The main plot is great also,I would have liked it a little bit more if they had Skinner more involved in the plot. It is great anyway. Was this review helpful? Come on!! It is a deaf snail flick. It's just another typical crime solving movie, not Sci-Fi!! This should be CSI!! Come on Hollywood, get that straight! Was this review helpful? Being a huge X Files fan, I found this film terribly disapointing. No governmental conspiracies, no paranormal activities (except for a pyschic child molestor). Not only is there no sexual tention between Scully and Mulder, they are now a bickering divorced couple and we didn't even get to see the romance! If that weren't bad enough, the agent portrayed by Amanda Peet was so irritating, we were glad when she was thrown to her death. I would have been satisfied with the equivalent of another TV episode-this didn't even come close to the quality of the worst episode of the X Files in terms of writing or acting. It is a terrible blot on the X Files. If you love the X Files, don't see this movie. Was this review helpful? This movie has defiantly caused controversy, yet most real fans I'd expect would be glad just have the X-Files up and running again. So it wasn't the best script, with not much in the way of the paranormal, but just to see Mulder and Scully baiting each other, with Mulder's crazy theories and Scully's skeptic disbelief.
This film obviously side-stepped most of the remaining questions at the end of the ninth series, and Skinner didn't really have much of a role, but this film is probably more for the 'shippers of the world. The love-hate relationship between Fox and Dana is stronger than I ever remember, amd their banter is just as seriously playful even years later.
You couldn't really expect the film to pick up where the series left off six years ago, but I feel it has shown the characters development over the time. I admit at first I was raving about, but as I came to think about it, and break out the ninth series DVD's the films story line proved slightly more disappointing.
No disrespect to Duchovny and Andersons acting skills, they were fantastic in seeming seamlessly slipping back into role, although the supporting cast weren't the best ever.
To be honest I was disappointed at the lack of Samantha-ness in the film, the ever-remaining mystery of the missing sister got one mention, maybe two as Scully reprimands Mulder. I'm sure they deliberately left her out of this, as it is a line with no closure. There’s not really that many ways to answer that bombshell, so what's it going to be...?
- have her suddenly be found after all this time, and have to explain how and why she has been abducted
-have her turn up and say she just of ran away from home (that would be a SERIOUS screw-up on their part... fans would go wild!)
- have her dead, causing Mulder to of wasted his life...
OR
- avoid the issue totally...
Oooh choices!
Personally the lack of important (mainly dead) characters from the... Was this review helpful? I am a romantic, I always wanted to see them together. So the movie was just what I wanted. It would have been unrealistic to see them jump right back from were they left off., it was a good starting point. See it will a open mind and just watch them being them. Was this review helpful? Real X-Files fans know that the last 20 or so episodes in the series were leading up to some kind of alien encounter or resolution involving Scully's child. Not even a hint of any of that. We thought the script was one they had left over from the series { that no one liked back then },We felt like they just needed some extra cash so they turned out this turd.
Thing is, the writers and actors from X-Files are capable of much better than this, they should all be ashamed of themselves for this one. Was this review helpful? I went to see this movie just because I love mystery and drama and thought it would be good from the trailor I saw. I loved it thought it was very well done and what a great love story. I can get more entertainment watching a white wall for two hours. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 8/5/2008A review of The X-Files: I Want to Believe by MovieMavenMomma I'm a loyal fan of the show but attended with a casual viewer of the show. We agreed that the relationship with Scully & Mulder was satisfying and long overdue, even if the whole 'William" issue was glossed over. The remainder of the movie was needlessly dark and gruesome like the worst episode sof the series, not the best. Did we need yet another pedophile priest reference ? I know there were better scripts avaiable and this was a squandering of talent and disappointment for fans of the franchise. Void of wit, humor, or real intelligence. We don't need aliens, but for heaven's sake, write a decent script with a developed plot. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 8/4/2008A review of The X-Files: I Want to Believe by theaterguide A pretty dark story even for the x-files. The story was about sickos not strange encounters which I hoped would be aliens and that's the story behind the x-files. Its uniqueness as well as Scully and Mulder's relationship. Was not impressed with this movie and frankly disappointed given its been years to think of something better. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 8/4/2008A review of The X-Files: I Want to Believe by pokermike2 This movie left the tracks early and not only derailed but plunged down a 1000ft embankment! Scully's mood was morose and whinny (very bad acting to boot). The subject matter of a psychic priest (with one to many alter boys) was dated and boring, and in bad taste, more for a B-movie. I thought I was watching a remake of the exorcist in Russian. This movie was like a bad marriage. You wanted to just leave and get out, but you thought it might get better, but it kept getting worse! The critics had mercy for this movie and gave it better than it deserved. Garbage!! Was this review helpful? its an exciting, familiar and interesting movie with terrific performances by DD and GA.
the mulder and scully relationship was perfect...but i think Skinner should have had a bigger role :)
