All I can say is "AWESOME' Mickey did everything right in this film. He's facial exceptions were right on, for what was going on in the different scanes he was creating. He acting was more powerful and life like then I've seen in amovie in alone time.
After his heart attach, he did try to make amends with people take were really important to him. And he just felt no one cared, wrestlering had been his life and he couldn't see it any other way after people turned thier backs on him
I WATCH ALOT OF MOVIES, I kind of am having health problems right now so movies are what I do. I was very disappointed he didn't get an oscar for this film, I really believe he should have. And yes I watched the other movies, still think Mickey should have taken that on home. SO FOR U MICKEY ROURKE YOU ARE THE BEST IN MILLIONS OF PEOPLES EYES. Now get out there and knock our scocks off again

But for me the problem was I didn't think that the movie lived up to its hype. Good movie, had parts where it was terribly slow. I thought the acting was very good though. Overall, good movie worth the rent, but not one I would want to sit through again. Was this review helpful? He carried the story, and kept the feeling of reality in it! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 2/23/2009A review of The Wrestler by trimblair There's a reason this movie is getting such great reviews from real people. Heck, even the critics like it (usually a bad sign in my book). I heard about this coming out 6 months ago and have been looking for it in the local theaters. Now that it won lots of awards, I found it. And the wait was worthwhile! Mickey Roarke gives the performance of his career as Randy the Ram, washed up wrestler. It harks back to Tom Hanks in FORREST GUMP or Val Kilmar playing John Morrison. And Marisa Torme was amazing in a gritty role as a stripper/girlfriend. She has matured as an actress and this role shows it. I was blown away by this movie. It was hard to watch at times, sad, happy. The direction was such that you felt like you were peering over Randy The Ram's shoulder as he went through his life. Amazing experience. Humbling. I am a movie goer, see several each week. This was the best movie I've seen since AUGUST RUSH last summer. Go see it! Was this review helpful? I have sat in those back room "locker rooms" in farmers markets and bingo halls. I had a hard time at points remembering Micky Rourke is an actor and not a fallen star from 80's wrestling. This movie moved me like no other movie I have ever seen. I felt heart sick for days, but thankful I got out of the business. Remember, not every wrestler is as fortunate as Hulk Hogan. He really is the exception to the rule. Randy"The Ram" is the norm. Loved it. Was this review helpful? The moral bankruptcy of the life of a stripper. The once-famous athlete, now older and his realization of the limits of his aging body. The vulnerable daughter still hoping for a meaningful relationship with a father she's never really known. All are just trying to push on through the adversity of their lives. Appropriate for this day and time when youth and good looks are everything and the need of every human being to feel a genuine tender touch is so lacking. Mickey Rouke is superior. Glad to see that he is able to bring his character to the screen with such raw reality. Cudos to all. You will think about this one for awhile. SEE IT! Was this review helpful? Excellent acting, special effects and play write. Not a real easy movie to sit thru and most definately an X Rated Show. Needs an adult audience - Only. Was this review helpful? It was slow, directionless, and depressing. The acting was OK, but not extraordinary. The characters and their relationships seemed thin and underdeveloped, as did the overall plot, if there was one. And the end &*^*ed. Have you ever been watching a slow movie and everybody laughed at a rare funny part in obvious desperation for entertainment, like, "I'm going to enjoy this movie if it's the last thing I do". This is one of those movies. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 2/6/2009A review of The Wrestler by casey20030 This was a real story of dealing with loss. It was captivating with very realistic and convincing acting performances by Roake and most of the supporting cast. Being an ex- wrestling fan from the 70's, I found the behind the scenes back story of the wrestling matches to be very interesting and really added, ironically, a realism to professional wrestling. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 2/1/2009A review of The Wrestler by JustThePlainTruth Someone wrote that this movie had no story line or a point. It did. It was about the roles we all play and the difficulty in abandoning them once they no longer fit. The stripper, though still gorgeous, was beginning to show her age and was having more difficulty in competing against the younger girls for patron's attention. Mickey Rourke played a wrestler of some note in his glory days, but age, health and a hard living were making it hard to even maintain the role of a weekend wrestler in High School Gyms.
He tried change the definition of himself to which he was long accustomed after a major heart attack by trying to be a better father to his 20 something daughter that the demands of being on the road during his career prevented. His daughter, by the way, was gay perhaps partially as an expression of her resentment and distrust of men due to her relationship with her father. Though the daughter was initially antagonistic, there was an emotionally charged reunion that brought tears to my eyes. However, he later failed her once again. He knew then that he couldn't break out of his role. He was, and only was, the wrestler. A fantastic job by Mickey Rourke. You can tell this man has gone through some pain. Was this review helpful? I went to the theater with high expectations for this movie. I was, however, both satisfied and disappointed. Mickey Rourke is an incredible actor, that goes without saying. I believe he should get the Oscar in the 'Best Actor' section this year. But he looked absolutely awful for this role. His hair was long on one side, and the other side was pushed behind his ear. He looked like Nathan Explosion from the late night Cartoon Network TV show 'Metalocalyspse'. His counterpart, Marisa Tomei, had a terrible role. She played a stripper who hid the fact that she had a son from her "customers". Her breasts were constantly showing (no complaints here, though), and she basically had no expression. Her role was very hard to decipher, you know, get into her head. On a different note, let's talk about "The Wrestler"'s story-line. When I hear that, I think, "What storyline?" The movie basically had no point, moral, or value at all. I'd say the ending was the most moving part, if there was one at all, and that is SAD. The plot was basically Rourke walking around (painfully) and trying to decide whether or not he's happy being retired. But Mickey livened that up, which was extremely hard to do (trust me, see this movie, and you'll see what I mean). Also, Bruce Springsteen wrote a song for "The Wrestler", which, coincidentally, has the same name. The song is catchy and moving, and I also think that Springsteen deserved at least an Oscar nod for 'Best Original Song'. The duration was good, and, thanks to Mickey Rourke, so was the acting. I say, all in all, I give "The Wrestler" 2/5 stars. I recommend going to see it if you plan to watch the Academy Awards come February. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 1/15/2009A review of The Wrestler by Sergio_The_Critic Mickey Rourke's character, Randy "The Ram" Robinson has seen the glory fade as he approaches the twilight of his career. In making a name for himself he has sacraficed many things including; the normalcy of family life and the much needed connection with loved one's, which is substituted by the company within gentlemen's clubs and facade presentation of caring through dancers, played by Cassidy (Marisa Tomei). His days are chronicled after the realization of his mortality and lack of his support system outside of the ring. The humanity of his career and the inability to accept truth; muzzled by "one more show" proof to be his demise in and out of the ring and he repeats in making the same mistakes that have for so long created his disposition. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 1/9/2009A review of The Wrestler by Witness201 Rourke and Tomei's characters in this stunningly acted film are both performers, exploited for the entertainment of others. We too witness the spectacle of these two on the job and the indignities they suffer. Yet as we watch them perform we begin to squirm in our seats as the humanity of their characters elicits our compassion. These are people in desperate circumstances trying to get by as best they can. They've been hurt too much to believe that anyone would stick by them. Though no one would rightly recommend this lifestyle--this film helped me understand it better. Though people may have agreed to a certain line of work doesn't mean they aren't being exploited. We view wrestlers and strippers as jokes, and maybe it helps us feel better about ourselves, but every one of them are human beings with a story. Without glamourizing it, this movie told their story.
