I see or hear something new and witty every time I watch it. I can watch it over and over again. Charming characters and every time I find myself saying this is my favorite part, only to move on to another favorite. I didnt expect it to be so good before I watched it and was pleasantly suprised when it was. I cant believe it wasnt more popular. Was this review helpful? In a way, its unforgivable that a film with such rich material to draw upon gets bogged down for so long with so many random encounters with characters we neither believe in nor care about. More than half of the running time is wacky-character filler detailing Munroes journey across America to the world land speed trials in the Utah salt flats! This is a true story where an interesting old man hopes to compete in one of the most exciting contests in the world, and they filmed more of the trip than the destination! This is like making Jurassic Park and spending 85 minutes on Dr. Grants adventures in passing customs. In fact, this movie does have a pointless customs scene! Munroe is detained! For no reason! And they film it!
So you dont need to see this movie, although Hopkins does a great job and the actual speed trials are well presented if staggeringly uninformative. Whats the old land-speed record? What category, specifically, is Burt competing for? Best check Wikipedia, because the film wont say. Was this review helpful? Every motorcycle enthusiasts should be required to see this story to apprreciate how far we have come with our two wheel passion.
Sir Anthony Hopkins once again has blessed this story with his magic and places you along side of Burt Monro and his journey to live his dream.

Well, it was a excellent story. The personal relationships that followed thoughtout this portions of Burts life was what brought a lot of enjoyment, to a story that could have also been presented in a documentary mode. It sparked my interest about Burt Munro to look up his story on line and find out more about some of the other times he ran his cycle. Was this review helpful? At the age of 68, he jeopardizes everything, including his own life, to break the world speed record and for that sake takes the bike to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. To enjoy the real adventures happening in this classic movie you must watch it yourself.

Im reminded of Richard Farnsworth in A Straight Story, both films entirely engaging, allowing the audience to understand others in unexpected ways. I was drawn to the films subject, but with Anthony Hopkins as the lead I would have seen it regardless. Having now seen it, I cant imagine anyone else playing Burt. Was this review helpful? I wouldnt know how the real Burt Munro would react to his story being brought to the big screen but for a New Zealander to see this on screen is awesome.
The films message is saying to NEVER underestimate the underdog and shows the world the No.8 fencing wire anything can happen idea only comes from good ol New Zealand
Sir Anthony Hopkins did the whole New Zealand accent perfectly especially with the rolling Rs only found in the bottom of New Zealand
I would consider this movie as 1 of the best films of 2005 and well worth my ten dollars Was this review helpful? At times. this message was lost in some scenes that were apparently thrown in to titillate the audiance. Other scenes appeared to move so slow that the purpose of that scene was completely lost.
Overall, this was a good film with a good message. It was nice to come out of a movie feeling good about the world. Once in a while, the little guy can win. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-11 of 11 Per Page | ||
