The songs are amazing and although diana ross maybe too old to play the part as dorothy, she has the most fantastic voice and portrayed the part very well. The staging and scenes and also the costumes are brilliant. I would recommend this to anyone who loves musicals as this is up to the standards of broadway and is one of my favourites. This was Diana Ross big mistake to insisted on playing Dorothy it is not believable she was too old she should have been perfect to play the good witch and let Stephanie Mills play the title role. Sidney Lumet use to direct dramas didn't have the light touch required for this genre. He seemed enamored with the spectacle and not the intimate. Tony Walton costumes and art direction walks away with the film they are great but everything else gets lost. When music is absent is heavy and even many songs should have been cut they drag down the pace of the film, specially the slow tempo ones. Nipsey Russell an original cast member of the show is fantastic but somehow I envisioned Sammy Davis Jr. Three outstanding sequences that brings the movie to life: Munchkinland and Miss One, Evilene's solo number"; Don't You Bring Me Bad News"; and the finale "; Brand New Day"; , skip the rest.a Was this review helpful? Micheal Jackson ,Diana Ross, the tin man( i forgot his name),and the lion put an amazing performance on the camera. I saw it once and bought it. The other people like the munchkins, Miss 1, and the family are great. This movie will make you laugh and smile as you sing along with it!!!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 4 users found this helpful I loved the dancing and the songs. The dark colors really made the movie more lugubrious, which in turn made me sad. I felt sorry for everyone, and wanted Dorothy to go home, which was the plot of the movie. Also, the creepy guys in the train station was an excellent touch; they made it more suspenseful. ";Ease on down, ease on down the raod! Don't you carry nothing, that might be a load! Ease on down, ease on down the road!"; (My Favorite song) Was this review helpful? I enjoyed the Wizard of Oz but Wiz was more elaborate and fun. Michael Jackson as the scarecrow just showed how shy he really is, but once he opened up (You can't win child) and he started dancing it was too sweet. And Diana Ross played a great Dorothy too. I also liked the color changes once they arrived at Emerald City. It was like they took the ";horse of a different color"; to a whole new level. I recommend that you watch both movies and make your own comparsion. Was this review helpful? Well when I saw it on the TV. I thought it was great. Diana Ross was great. And it gave Michael Jackson to act, sing and dance all at the same. Sure it's different then the white version but the dancing is better in the black version. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-7 of 7 Per Page | ||
