The senery was great, the cgi was... decent, and the basic story line(actually, there really wasnt much of a story line in it) was a good, if not over done, idea. But there were just so many problems. Such as the fact that most of the acting was absolutly plane and absolutly boring. I think the best actors were the two kids(they were great), and the two cooks. And the two cooks werent even really important characters! But then there was the story line. Yes, it was there, but it never really did much. For the first 30 minutes, there is almost always something happening. Then you have another 30 where nothing happens. And then in the last 15 minutes they try to make it interesting again. Now, yes, I am 18 and it wasnt made for my age group, but even looking at it from a kids point of view, I think that over all, I still would have dropped out.

The scenery was beautiful, but the story seriously underdeveloped, as are the characters and really lacks excitement. It could have been done much better, I think.

My family LOVED this film. The Nessie character is cute and all, but we all found ourselves deeply enjoying the human actors, the gorgeous Scottish backdrop and the wonderful telling of the story itself. The young boy and both of the father figures did a magnificent and moving job in their roles. The Variety review on this site makes a great point when they say this movie could jumpstart tourism to Scotland -- walking out of the theater, we all said "let's go to Scotland and hunt for Crusoe!" I would highly recommend this film to families with kids ages 7 or older (or some very brave 6 year olds like my daughter).

I loved this movie. I do think it is for 8 yr olds and up...It is an emotional movie. I took my 9 yr old and he loved it. It was sad, happy and a little scary. I would buy this movie when it comes to DVD. Great movie!

Well, this was mostly a lovely, visually enchanting movie. Nice story, clear-cut characters, etc. All going well for a kids' movie. Until..... the war-oriented special effects (testing the cannons, the final scene where they're shooting at Karuso) are way, way, way, way too loud, scary, and overwhelming for young children. My 3.5-year old and 5-year-old had been having a fine time, laughing out loud especially at the young Karuso's antics, but after the first gun went off, that was it and they were huddled in our laps for the rest of the movie. If only the move producers had had the confidence to keep the movie something joyous for the little kids.... Adults and older kids don't need warfare to make the movie interesting. Sheesh!

BETTER THAN SO SO...My wife, my 80+ yr. old Mother and myself saw the movie Christmas afternoon. Stanta Fe Station was packed...45 minute line for tickets. If you're an animal lover, you'll love it. Some of the sub-plots were just time fillers and not needed. The movie kept my interest throughout but I think it will attract the under 13 age group more. Reminded me of Titanic with its full flashback format with a touch of Jaws and Saving Willie. Worth the money..."...HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT THE MOVIE, MOM..." "NOT VERY MUCH" she said.
