The way the plot played out (largely due to terrible directing) was convulted and it got to a point where I really didn't care what happened to any of the characters. They could have all jumped off a cliff and died and I wouldn't have cared. The beautiful Ms. Thandie Newton was the only one that held my attention - she did what she could with what she had to work with. Mark Wahlerg - poor choice for male lead, he was flatter than an ironing board. Tim Robbins - wasted. This is a very bland film trying to be something it's not. Was this review helpful? In fact, it had but one glaring flaw: I have no idea what was going on.After I left the theater, I tried to figure out exactly what had happened, but to no avail. The characters actions do not reflect either their assumed or real personae, and many of the plot twists left my mind a allegorical pretzel.Besides this, it was a very well-made movie, gratuitous nudity aside. The acting was well-done enough, considering the material they were given to work with. The score was appropriate, and the cinematography was captivating. If you loved it too, check out the original movie, Charade, with Cary Hart and Audrey Hepburn! The movies are almost exactly the same. And 1.) for a movie remade from one of the 60's, it was very well modernized. 2.) for the original, Charade, The comedic level was held very well. I dont know what it was so much about this movie, the thrill and the drama, the sespense, the love, It was an awesome movie. Its now one of my favorites, next to the french flick, Amelie. I loved this movie!! I went in expecting a suspense flick and got that and so much more. This movie was filmed differently than any movie I've ever seen before and it just added to the movie's intrigue. The plot twists were unexpected and the entire audience burst out in laughter constantly at the little jokes and ironies splayed through out. I highly recommend this movie and can't wait myslef until it comes out on DVD!! And even if you don't like the plot you get to enjoy a couple hours of Mark Wahlberg!! :P Was this review helpful? I can't think of one remake that was better than the original, that is a mighty high goal to shoot for. Taken on it's own, this movie is entertaining, quirky, fast-paced, the camera work is a bit dizzying, but the stars are excellent. Thandie Newton is just luminous, Mark Wahlberg is gorgeous, suave, and he keeps you guessing as to which side he is on and who he truly is. The rest of the cast was great as well, each character was distinct and menacing in their own way. I loved the action, the intellectual drama, and of course, the shot of a shirtless Mark Walhberg didn't hurt one little bit! And the soundtrack was pretty great as well. Was this review helpful? The acting and the directing left everyone guessing until the end. This movie has it all: plot twists, suspense, action, adventure, and of course romance.
