It's silly, strange, and campy, just as it was intended. Samuel L. Jackson had the best lines. Now, who are these idiots that demand their money back? Movies don't come with guarantees. Good, well written dialogue makes a movie believable and draws the audience in. Bad, poorly written dialogue pushes us away and reminds us we're just watching something shined on a big screen. If you saw 300 and Sin City, you're all set, you've seen this movie, and you saw a better version. Was this review helpful? It's a fun story with a lot of quirky funny moments, and a nice blend of action and romance. I think people were expecting to go see a typical action super-hero movie, which this is not. Does it have some of those elements? Yes, but this was so much more. I went to go see the movie after reading a lot of negative reviews because I was curious as to how bad it could possibly be, and you know what? I thought they were all wrong. I loved this movie, and I think it should be given a chance. Just know what you are going to see, a fun, campy, quirky, stunningly beautiful and stylized film. In these times, it's nice to have a fun lighthearted film to go see that doesn't take itself sooooo seriously, but instead examines problems in the world from a comedic point of view, and offers up hope in the form of a masked avenger who is here to look out for us all. to quote the commercial "He's something that the world needs" and i truely believe that. It's a comic. You read frame by frame and your mind makes the rest... The sounds and the dialogue are exactly what I expected. The dark, ominous colors with rich symbolic accents is very indicative of the decision makers for the movie. I got what I came for. A good time, some action, some romance, some weirdness and some fat, balding, dumb, obedient num-nums. Was this review helpful? If I would have listened to all of the reviews I would not have gone to see a GREAT film. While the plot was silly and basic, the script and cinematography was anything but. This film was based on a comic strip that I think most of us are too young to remember so I didn't know what to expect. No it's not in the same vein as the Dark Knight, but it was never intended to be so. It is a good escape into comic fantasy. It reminded me of the 40's film noir classics, full of voluptuous women, insane villains, and tortured heroes. The cleverness of the script is probably missed by over half the audience and the reason no one seems to get it. That being said, it was well worth the money to see. Was this review helpful? I have never read the comic. I enjoyed the movie. I knew right away that people wouldn't be ready for it though. The movie has too much like a piece of art. Even though the movie had women and violence, it was artistic. Most people who want those two R rating contributers, want them full throttle. Thankfully, 1 percent of 400 million is 40 million. So, I kinda think the movie was made for me and the other 39, 999, 999 people who enjoy this stuff. Thanks, Frank. Thanks for makeing the movie that the other 360 million people don't know they need. Such as raw action, nasty,dirty sex scenes, and such, this movie offers a unique plot and has the potential to be a great, comic like fantasy feature film.
I suggest that some critics should open up their minds a little more and think more deeply about the plot as well as how it was demonstrated on screen. Not all movies have to be "bad ass" to be good. (We would say it's more like a Z)...We wanted to demand our money back!..( but we couldn't because we snucked in.)..,. I think this is on par with "Cyborg" with Angelina Jolie in it...probably worse though...
The best part of this film was the audience making fun of it and the scene with Eva Mendes nearly basically naked; otherwise, I wouldn't dare go see this. Was this review helpful? The movie begins when the spirits telephone rings so he pulls on his mask, fedora, and of course his red tie. He saves a lady from thugs and begins narrarating his story. Five minutes later you get introduced to octupus a psycotic madman played by samuel l jackson (who played this character very well) who is looking for a vase to drink from to recieve the power of immortality. The only person who stands in his way is the spirit.The way that they filmed this movie was incredible. It was the faintest bit of color and sometimes black and white and sometimes red and black. They chose an excellent cast for this movie including Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Eva Mendes, and Sarah Paulson. The only thing i would warn you about this movie is there are some disturbing scenes including a man getting blown up and his body parts flying everywhere, A man is shot in the head six times, and a man kills himself and we see the back of his head blown apart Was this review helpful?
