This movie is all lies! Arthur didnt get taken by fairies he got taken by elves! And mallory was supposed to get kidnapped too! There was supposed to be a big scary troll in the river too! Trust me i have the books! I have proof! There are so many things that they cut out and/or changed in this movie! Like with the Sprites...they had more of a part in the books! People who havnt read the books and have seen the movie need to read the books and then watch the movie AGAIN!!!! hope i was a lil helpful!

Awsome family movie. I thought that my eldest son wouldn't like this movie, but he loves it, especially with all the fictional characters in it. There were a lot of emotions, but the children loved it as well as the rest of the family.

Based on critics' and user reviews I anticipated an adventurous, action packed, smart script. Both my kids (9yrs and 15 yrs) as well as myself were very disappointed: too much spell, too much crazy horror and unbelievable plots. Yes the son learned to appreciate his Mom; however, there are too many good movies out there that take a more credible and inspirational route. Waste of time and money as far as I am concerned.

I thougt this was the most intertaining film I've seen this year. It not only kept the children on the edge of their seats, I didn't even yawn once. I wish there were more like this.

THIS MOVIE SUXED!!! It didn't have half of the main points. Like Mallory getting kidnapped, where was that?!?!?! I haven't read they books in a few years, but I don't remember Mulgarath dying like that! Arther wasn't taken buy fairies but by elves! The Spiderwick Chronicles was jam packed with lies. If they truly cared about making it into a wonderful movie they would of made it into at least two separate movies not just one. The only thing that made this movie alright is the creatures actually looked like the creatured described and illustrations in the book.

My children and I read all the books. We were so excited to see the movie. I was diappointed that the movie miss alot of the important parts that made the books exciting. I wish I saw the movie first I might of enjoyed it more. It was a great movie for kids for except of the one part with the Dad. I hope everyone goes and reads the books the adventures are so much more exciting.

I teach Kindergarten and can tell you this movie is definitely NOT for that age. Really I'd say your child better be 5th grade or older to see this movie. The animated characters are pretty grotesque and there are very scary parts. I was cringing and so was my husband. I really wouldn't consider this a family movie. But I did like it. It was magical and mystical, fun to watch and very suspenseful all the way through. The special effects were very very well done!

I saw this movie yesterday and it was great I saw it with my grandma. But I don't understand why a lot of people say that's it's not for young children, that's just retarded. But anyway, during almost the whole movie, this little girl in the row behind us kept on asking stupid questions to her mom and her mom kept on telling her to shut up about 10 times. But then this boy right behind my grandma kept on kicking my grandma's seat.I'm going to tell you one of the questions the little girl asked...during the movie when Jared tried to feed Thimbletack some crackers with honey on them, then Jared sat down and waited, then the little girl asked her mom,"Is he mad?"That little girl was so weird.I would just tell that little girl and the boy who kept on kicking my grandma's seat to, "SHUT UP!" an "QUIT KICKING MY GRANDMA'S SEAT YOU IDIOT" But well anyway it's a good family movie I gave it 4 stars because of what those children did. I would've gave it 5 stars if those stupid things the children did never happened. But anyway it was great.

My 11 year old son has read all of the books and he really loved it. I have read the first book and am on to the second one, but I'm not quite sure whether or not I liked the movie. I don't think that Jared was portrayed accurately; in the film he behaved more like a disturbed sociopath than a boy distraught over his parents' looming divorce. I also feel that one would really had to have read the books first to clearly understand what is going on and to appreciate the movie. Had I seen the movie first I probably wouldn't have bothered to read any of the books. The movie just seemed to go too fast and they seemed to skip a lot of information. It was as if they were in a big hurry to tell the story and get on to the action. Which is typical these days. I did read all of the Harry Potter books and have seen all of the movies and I wish the makers of the Spiderwick movie would have written the screenplay in the same spirit. Given it more time for more background information. I wouldn't have minded staying a little longer to see it for a little more build up before the big scenes. And I really hated the actor playing both parts - are there no twin actors these days? I would have rather seen genuine no-name twins. Perhaps the reason I didn't completely hate it is because my son loved it so much.

The movie was great. It is absolutely a fun family film. Any parent with a shred of COMMON SENSE would research a movie before taking their young children to see it. So giving this film a poor rating for your mistake is outrageous. I took my 5 and 6 year old to see it. They loved it. It's definitely magical, gooey, and adventurous. Lots of good kid oriented humor. The acting is great and the effects are amazing.
