I thought this movie was wonderful. I've been working with people with schizophrenia for about 15 years and have heard many of them describe the experience. This movie perfectly captured that experience - the unrelenting intrusion the voices can have on the individual's life.

I thought this movie was brilliant all the way around....the story line, photography, editing and acting. An incredible study on human nature. Both Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. deserve Oscars. This may be considered a sleeper film, but it will be up at the top when the awards are being passed out.

And once again the folks who have not even seen the movie are giving us their worthless opinions. Who cares what YOU hope the movie is going to be like when or if you see it! Do that first then let the rest of us know what you think.

Excellent movie, robert downey jr & Jamie Foxx are wonderful. Looks past just realtionship of the characters to our social epidemic of the homeless and mentally ill in our country. And our responsibilty to this.. Very moving...

I don't want to write a review of other reviewers, but where are people coming up with "christian bashing"? I didn't get that at all. When Hollywood gets ahold of a story, people expect the usual happy ending, but that's not reality. The truth is that there are no easy answers for helping the homeless, especially the mentally ill. This movie shows you the ugly side of their daily life, the side we try not to see and then feel guilty about when we do. Ultimately, this is a story about a real friendship and respect for others. Jamie Fox's take on Nathanial Ayers is frighteningly realistic, but not over the top. It's a beautiful film if you can cope with the fact that it doesn't wrap everything up in a nice little box with a bow on top.

Posted: 4/26/2009A review of The Soloist by Huebdoo
Ok, its an amazing story - I like the fact that it didnt have some typical Hollywood ending where everything is puppies and sunshine at the end. However the movie itself reminded me so much of the movie "Shine" that it took away from the movie standing out for me. Robert and Jamie are amazing - but I would have to say the story is gritty, sad, ugly - and it wears on you as you watch it Some amazing parts - but as a whole the movie left me going "Its good, Not Great"

Except for the predictable Hollywood take on anyone religious equaling a nut case, this was an exceptionally wonderful movie!

I know that this story was based on a true story but how much of it is true and the spin of the movie industry is not told or known. The story in it's self was not a bad story but ended up basically as a no hope story. Unfortunately, this part is probably true. My biggest complaint about this story is the Christian bashing that when on all through out the movie. The ills of this country are not the fault of Christians but the fault of a poor government and how they want to forget the people who are in need the most. It's too bad that the prejudice of the movie industry is allowed to creep into every movie they make. Here is a tip Movie Industry, stop alienating your audience.

Jamie Fox has definitely lost his edge and turned in a desperate but failing effort to find his character. Despite the talent thrown at this film, the result thrashes around looking for areal message and just turns repetitive and maudilin in Fox's effort. Really not worth the price of the movie and having seen it, I wouldn't recommend even renting the DVD.

I did not like it for a few reasons: The story was not that interesting and not very believable either. I know that it was based on a real story but the way the story was re-told in the movie made me question why a journalist would get so moved, so involved & not foresee the end of it. I've expected to see some unusual story development, like the one in "Beautiful Mind". Not the case. From the beginning-middle of the film it was clear that there is no hope. Possibly it was based on one of those books that do not translate well into a movie. All the same I did not like it & I cannot recommend it to anyone. Overall feel: long, long, not well made movie. Despite of good actors the movie was lacking a spark of talent. After about 20 min watching it I had an urge to leave. Not that is something remarkable as it does not happen to me very often. I stayed till the end with unchanged feeling about the picture.

I loved this movie! Not being familiar with the real story, I just got lost in the humanity, the fraility, the strength depicted by Jamie Foxx's portrayal. Actually, I completely forgot I wasn't witnessing the real Nathaniel struggling to keep his life in balance. Robert Downy, Jr. is always amazing and he continues in that vein with his Steve Lopez. I never lost interest and not only that, I want to know more about these amazing characters.
