All I can really say about John Wayne in this movie was he had a chance to take a lot of his past roles and blend them into J.B. Books.<br><br>Some scenes, he was Ethan Edwards, in others he was Rooster Cogburn, and in a few he was Sean Thorton.<br><br>A while ago..I had a older lady say to me that I reminded her of John Wayne when I came to her aid.<br><br>I've always lived by the creedo that he explained to Ron Howard..<br>"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I require the same of them"..<br><br>Maybe, if people would remember that...This world would be a better place...

The most compeling movie for John Wayne officiendo's! The way Baby Boomers should say goodbye to the Western era as we once new it! A must for all non believers.

For his farewell film, John Wayne becomes a composite of all the Western characters of his career in the form of John Bernard Books who, in the twilight of his life, 'rounds the corner into the 20th century; a more modern civilized era that is witness to the end of the cowboys and the gun-slingers. He has ridden into his fate in the form of old grudges, old girlfriends, and an old disease called Cancer that slowly eats him away. It is one heck of a birthday party. Although none would admit it, all seemed painfully aware that Wayne would not survive 30 days past this film's release. A strong final chapter in a great American story...... however you choose to view it.
