One Lifer (Robbins), insists on his innocence but has to endure what the Courts say.
Andy Dufresne is charged with the double murder he doesn't think he is guilty of.His new friend Red (Freeman), tries to live by the books,but endures years upon years of parole.
My heart is somewhat taken to the warden,who is a down-the line "pulpit preacher" on discipline; He is no-nonsense about following orders. Yet, I see he has his weaknesses and goes astray in scandalous behavior.The fascinating thing about this movie is how the two guys beat the system. Andy escapes to Mexico, while Red sweet talks the parole board and goes free. Red manages to quit, and joins his friend at the end. Bravo and Bravo for this amazing film! Was this review helpful? Amazing plot and very good acting by all the characters adds stars to this movie. I dont know or care how it did in the cinemas but this movie is a must see. The story does not rely on action, but even without that presence, it never slows. It keeps your undevided attention until the very end. Trust me when I say that I am very picky when it comes to films. If I step into a theatre or even rent a movie, I expect to be blown away. I was when I watched this movie for the first time. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman do a fantastic job. The film has many themes but the one that stands out to me is hope. Andy never gives up. No matter the abuse he takes from other prisoners, the warden, etc.. He never gives up. This movie is a true testament to the human spirit. <br><br>Bottom Line: The greatest film ever made. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman were great and delivered perfect performances. Andy is sent to prison for life, and thus begins his journey which is an uphill struggle all the way. It's a very moving film, told from the perspective of Red, another convicted murderer and Andy's best friend, whose first impression of Andy is that a stiff breeze would blow him over. As time progresses though, Andy's values of hope have an impact on red who develops a better understanding and different perspective on things. When I first saw it, I was overwhelmed. It should have done way better in the oscars. This is one of the best films I have ever seen and would strongly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. Was this review helpful? Clancy Brown of "Highlander" fame contributes to the brutality that adds to the reality of the film. The calm practical voice of Freeman keeps you enthralled throughout the movie. Supporting cast do their jobs helping the illusion of what it must be like on the inside of a 1940's prison. Steven King who wrote the short novella must surely be proud. The plot is amazing and the actors make it so enjoyable. Tim Robbins is an extraordinary actor along side legendary Morgan Freeman. These two are a great team, I believe. It's unfortunate that there are actually people like the warden who are as lawbreaking as he was, but it's also terrific to see people overcome them. This movie is definitely full of surprises, and I think anyone who is lucky enough to be able to watch it will be satisified. It's THAT great of a film. Was this review helpful?
