I too loved the book, and was pleased that the movie held true to the book as much as a movie can. The characters came to life in such a wonderful cast, and they WERE the characters in the book. They all hit their marks, and Dakota Fanning acted her soul out in this movie. Seeing her reaction when May was laying the trail of crumbs, and again when she was close to touching the black Mary but feinted instead was so moving. She is just a wonderful young actress. Jennifer Hudson played her part to a "T", a beat up and broken black woman in the 60's coming back to life in a house of supportive women. Go see this movie with your sister's and daughters. The actors drawl you into the movie and before you know it you are living the life with them. Dakota Fanning is a real treasure! It is a must see. Was this review helpful? some of them i didn't like before i went to this movie, but soon i was into their part and loving their work. this movie was touching, emotional, funny and just down right wonderful.
just go see the movie and then come back here and tell me what you thought.

The entire cast was wonderful. I took my twelve year old granddaughter to see the movie and see thought it was great. The previews were a bit misleading. However, since she is 12 she did not understand the racism. Subsequently, it was a chance for me to explain the history of the civil rights movement to her and how it affected people especially in the South. Both my grand daughter and I truly enjoyed the movie. She said it was her second favorite movie. Dreamgirls is her first(and we see a lot of movies). I do not agree with the critics ratings and I highly recommend it. Was this review helpful? I've looked eagerly forward to several and after watching them felt like I could have done without seeing them.
Secret Life of Bees was not that kind of film. I am so proud of all the actors in this movie. Taking a book to movie is a huge step and usually, the magic is lost. I did not find this to be the case with this film. Fanning is growing up and she, along with the rest of the cast, did a fantastic job. I cried when I should have cried. I laughed when I should have laughed. Most importantly, I left the theater with a great feeling in my heart because I was proud of not only the adaptation of the book to film, but the great message in the book that was not lost in film

It was very heart warming and I can not wait to see the full movie!
