After this movie, I would have to question ANY movie he does. THis movie was disjointed, slow, underacted in some areas and overacted in others, making it just stupid. Johnny Depp is brilliant in everything he's in but this was a total let down. The previews made it look funny...it wasn't. For 400 years Spain brought slaves from Africa to Puerto Rico to work as slaves for the wealthy Spanish plantation owners. Johnny Depp would lead you to believe that it was The United States that killed the inhabitants of Puerto Rico in 1493 but that is not true. Johny Depp states in this movie that The United Kingdom of Great Britain slaughtered the natives of Puerto Rico, that statement is false and a lie. The United Kingdom did not invade Puerto Rico, it was Spain and Spain alone. Spain as well controlled the Slave trade from Africa to the rest of the world. This movie is a lie and attempts to change history, Johnny Depp seems to have issues with the fact that Spain killed the natives of Puerto Rico and instead blames the UK. Was this review helpful? I am so happy I used to do shrooms and acid while watching fear and loathing. Hunter is and always will be the most influential man to ever walk this earth. Read the book couple months ago with the thought of there might be a movie based on the book now Im so happy. never read a book based on a movie that was being prepared to released before. Each and every word, location its all in my mind, now I wonder weather or not my vision of how the book is going to translate to film.

THOMPSONS Continueing legacyPosted: 11/9/2006A review of The Rum Diary by DominikHate MY life was changed the first time I ever watched the movie FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. Staring the most facinating two characters I had ever seen put to film. This was my first exposure to Gonzo Journalism and it stuck viciously. Thompson has become an addiction since then. THE RUM DIARIES should prove to be a worthy successor in this genre. It would seem that the good Doctor has found his champion in Depp. Since Thompsons suicide I have wondered about the future of Gonzo Jounalism, and I am relieved that there are others who have Bought their tickets and intend to to ride this monster out to the end. Thompson adventure is pure ecstacy. Playing Thompson has got to be one of Depps most amazing roles, showing his versatility and creativity, for all those who haven't seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, go watch it, you're in for a treat and also a preview of what The Rum Diaries will be.
