The facts are 100% wrong. The actors should say "Aztec" instead of "Mayan" because the the setting is in Mexico and Aztecs are in Mexico and Mayans are in Guatemala (I'm not 100% sure if they're throughout Central America). Why is there one ruin? There should be more than just one. You got to be kidding me, killer flowers, that's the best they could think of? C'mon, a tank of weed killer could just do the job. The writer's imagination was what won me over. I could not put it down. The thought of it becoming a movie was exciting. I knew I would be judgemental about it , having read the book and loving it. When I saw it......THE MOVIE WENT AWAY FROM THE BOOK IN THE FIRST 15 MINUTES!!!! It was like a nod to the actual fiction wrote in the book and the director / screenwriter did their own thing. I gave up trying to coorelate the movie to the book and just felt like I was watching another movie. The worst, the absolute worst insult to the book is was happens in the last 5 minutes. It went against the entire premose of the book how the movie ended... After my jaw dropped, I shrugged it off.
The movie itself went entirely too fast, forgot important context and MAJOR CHARACTERS from the book. Not to say things are set to be omitted from book to film. I understand that. This flop simply dismissed it entirely and made up the rest.
Oh well, go read the book. They have yet to make a movie about it...LOL Was this review helpful? Well; This movie was quite odd to me. It wasn't a terrible movie, but it sure wasn't the best. To me it was pretty much gore, and don't get me wrong I love gore, but the whole basis upon the storyline, ehhh. Just didn't catch me as well as other movies have. I think that some people would like this, and some people wouldn't. It would all just depend on your opinions of movies, and interests. Bascially if you like fake things, that couldn't really happen, but would be interesting to watch, this movies for you, if you hate movies that have no good storyline behind it, or just can't happen, don't watch this. Everyone knows......"ooooh the book was so much better". In this case I don't how it could be possible. Shallow characters, shallow plot, crappy ending. The book was called The Ruins.....there were no ruins! Just a mine shaft. What does a Mayan mine shaft have to do with a giant man eating plant? In fact, the Mayans did not "mine" anything.
The only thing remotely suspenseful about the book was how each one of the characters would be killed off. Yep by a talking vine. Feed me Simore. Was this review helpful? Seriously people, don't waste your time on this movie. WORST. MOVIE. EVER.
Don't waste your money or your precious time. It isn't even good for gore fans. Sure, there are some "EEEW" moments, but the movie is just too stupid. And because they are trying to be serious, it isn't even funny in it's own awfulness. Was this review helpful? I went a little off topic but about the movie. Ruins wasn't the best moral story it was more of a acient legend comming to life. It was pretty good I mean it was a little freaky, and gory but I liked it. People that said they watched it they probably didn't pay attention cayuse the middle of the movie was the best part.
