This movie was Jean Reno's breakout performance in the United States, but a young Natalie Portman steals the movie. Without her balance of innocence, the movie would have been slightly over the top and could've been considered a parody of the genre. The scenes between Reno and Portman switch between professional and apprentice to father and daughter to a parody of husband and wife. Gary Oldman, the consummate bad guy, is at his brooding best. Great cast, great script, and a great director all make a great movie. One of my all time favorites.

This was defenitly one of the best crime movie ever made. The way it ended was totally unexpected. I loved the movie, howevever, the way the "bad Guys" stormed into the hotel like that was totaly unrealistic, but i still Love this movie. If you dont mind Violence, and Blood, I highly recomend you watching this Movie.

Very simply, Natalie Portman is excellent in this film as is Jean Reno. Leave out that pitiful over-acted performance of Gary Oldman and this wouldve been a two thumber..

Great movie! This is more my type of film.
I must admit that i like movie of crime, action and all.
I must say one more thing too, i think that should be Gary Oldman to be nominated as best actor.
He was fascinating, for moments i thought he was really stansfield, that he was really a criminal.
Admittedly I am still what you might consider a dilettante in relation to the reviewing trade however even the most uncultured of novices would need to exhibit a remarkable capacity for tastelessness to overlook this enthralling melange of emotional subtly and disturbing violence. Leon is a master peace in tension both thrilling and unsettling, with the suspect relationship between Matilda (Nathalie Portman) and Leon (Jean Reno) providing an emotional depth and a riveting uneasiness realised with a delicacy and finesse so symbolic of the film. Jean Reno gives one of his most impressive performances as the reclusive assassin who reluctantly befriends Matilda after the brutal killing of her family. A twelve year old with a piercing stare and a devious cynicism that belies her youth, Matilda has had an early exposure to the warping effects of the darker side of life and reality and so puts it upon herself to learn from Leon so to eventually avenge her families death. Most vivid throughout is the gradual weakening of Leon’s numbed emotional existence, as the irrepressible Portman bewitches the soul of the French marksman showing him a world beyond that of what he had previously experienced. With this bond however comes the inevitably cost for Leon, as he becomes embroiled in the feud between Matilda and the corrupt DEA officer (Gary Oldman) who instigated the murder of her family. Draped in all that is good about films Leon culminates in a compelling conclusion that satisfies both the thriller fanatic and the emotional vampire alike and with the aforementioned Gary Oldman delivering a standard over theatrical yet sensational performance, Leon soars above the mediocrity and predictability which has plagued the genre for so long. For those who like films it’s a must see for those who love films, I’m sure you’ll agree.

This movie had a tragic ending, but it was fulfilling. Jean Reno did well, and so did Natalie Portman.

A really good movie to see if you like a movie with a plot with some action in it.
