It was embarassing to watch. Steve Martian has no talent. How he appears on the big screen is an absolute mystery. Don't go to see this excuse of a movie and warn your friends. I recommend this movie as it was entertaining and a good popcorn flick. I am biased as I love the cartoon, but inspector Clauseau did a respectable job in this movie. Was this review helpful? It was just an average trip to the theater to see and average movie. Well, this was no average movie. It was so funny, that I was almost laughing though the whole movie. Steve Martin, who plays the very funny Inpector Closou, made me laugh so hard. If you see this movie ( I hope you see it), you won't regret it. It was cute, but I never had a belly-laugh moment. Steve Martin's frenglish accent never quite worked. John Cleese would have killed as Clouseau, but I suppose he's a bit old to play someone just finding romance. I love Jean Reno - he was the coolest guy on the planet in The Professional and he murdered me as Le Frog in Flushed Away. Sadly, as Ponton, he's squandered as a worshipping lackey. (I thought they were saying Bon Temps). Gee, that might actually have been funny - can't have that. That Sonja chick (Ms. Bachchran) was HOT! Wow - what a looker and she can act, too! He only looks at the small and miniscule problems that all movies have.
If you ask me, Clouseau and Ponton are just as good if not better. Plus Mr.Germain remarked about Ponton's British accent. Ponton had the same accent in the first Pink Panther, and it was very successful. So why didn't Mr. Germain smack Ponton about his accent in the first one? I believe it's because he has never seen the first Pink Panther. Mr. Germain's review is completely opposite of the movie. The only reason he gave the movie such a bad review is because he has a completely untraceable sense of humor.
If you want my opinion, I think it's a four star show. But go watch it for yourself. Was this review helpful? The least they could have done is casted an actual frenchman or someone with simular looks, not to mention someone who is not making a complete mockery of the french accent. If I was a french person I would take it as a racist way at saying, "hey I can speak like a stupid frenchman too". However, the biggest hurdle to overcome is the continuity, and not only because the original actor had black hair and a black mustache, but think about it, Steve Martin has white hair and a black mustache, how is that possible; for continuity perposes. I can't watch this film without noticing that major screw up, how could they miss that basic aspect of a character. Anyway, I rate it at a -10 stars, it wasn't worth the $8.50.
