I couldnt believe Meryl Streep was the bad guy. It was a total surprise. Denzel Washingtons appearance was amazing and Liev Schreiber was amazing. If I could Id give this movie a 10 star rating. I have not seen the original 1962 movie yet the 2004 version shares the same basic story elements of the original film and somehow stays faithful to the original movie... Was this review helpful? From beginning to end the attention is caught, and questions are posed to be asked. Guessing how the ending will happen, or even just guessing if there will be a sex scene. This movie is just as good as I wanted it. Anyone who gives this movie below 4 stars obviously doesn't have a knack for political or suspense movies. I love this movie beyond a doubt. It was a total waste of talent for D. Washington to take this role. If the script was based on a true story, it'd a big shame for American to know that its politics is as filthy as it can get. Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Good StuffPosted: 8/13/2004A review of The Manchurian Candidate by Optimistic_Daya My friends and I decided that we needed something to do on a rainy day when we knew we had homework to do, we drove to the movie theater to see some new Denzel Washington movie, we didn't know the name, didn't care what it was about. etc. etc.. but as we begin to watch the movie we became instantly hooked, so did the whole of the theater, no-one left the theater, and at the end, there was this awesome silence like "Oh MY GOD!!." I really enjoyed this film as it was suspenseful, the acting was superb... and it's one of those films that make you really think about things. GREAT movie, a definite five stars... and I hope that the Oscars keep the performances of Washington and Streep in mind, as they stole the show HANDS DOWN! Was this review helpful? Candidate moves slowly and takes itself far too seriously. Not a shred of humor in over two hours despite the fact that it's too illogical to be taken seriously. For example, the "Manchurian Candidate" is a young Senator who becomes the VP candidate despite seeming like a mental patient for half the movie. He is also single - which would in reality eliminate him from any list of VP candidates. It sounds nick-picky but the whole movie is full of things like this. Example 2; police don't see obvious clues to two murders. The pacing is set like a murder mystery though we know ahead of time what is going on, so why strech it out? Unlike a good murder mystery there are no plot turns or surprises. Go see Collateral instead, it's a five star movie with a similar style. Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
