I saw the film for the second time last night with my older brother and sister. They had eye witness insight into the movie and were able to verify for me the accurateness of the events portrayed. The movie evoked a number of emotions, from sadness and anger, to a strange, almost indescriblable feeling of something lost. The movie was skillfully made in that it gave a historically accurate depiction of the Cuban revolution, mixed with the love story between Fico and his widowed sister in law, which though fictional, probably happened a hundred fold with a variety of different twists to real life Cubans. All in all, I found the movie not just enjoyable, but also fulfilling.

I, myself, have not lived through that horrid time, but my mother and grandparents did. It helps give me a better picture as to what they went through, even though this movie represents only the first half of Castros take over. The professional critics, I have no clue how they were able to print anything, they have nothing to nit-pick about. The acting was great, the story-line has ficitional characters, but the experience, and the events that happened to them, happened to all Cubans.

This movie IS GREAT BECAUSE IT GOES BACK TO HISTORY IN THE 1950S IN HABANA CUBA. I AM A CUBAN GIRL. ANDY GARCIA PLAYED GREAT!!!!!!!!! ALL THE STORY IS MOSTLY TRUE. MY ABUELA WAS CRYING BECAUSE THATS WHAT HAPPEND TO HER. I SAY ALL CUBANS SHOULD GO AND SEE THIS WONDERFUL MOVIE. IF YOUR CUBAN YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPEND. SO GO AND SEE THE LOST CITY.

The realistic blood splattering from frequent executions, beatings, and abject crjuely got to be too much for me. I had to leave before end of the film. Ok, Im there to learn something about the history of the Cuban revolution, be entertained, try to understand what Cuba is about now in view of this fictionalized history. The filmmaker understood the entertainment aspect because he includes a perfunctory, yet unlikely romance---man dates dead brothers widow after urging from his mom--complete with a stunningingly beautiful woman, in numerous fabulous outfits. But the excessive presentation of rendering death, including seemingly authentic newsreel clips of executions, was over done to the point of precluding an interesting experience for me, the viewer.

This movie was excellent to watch. It not only traced a period of history, it documented a family whose struggles paralleled those of their country. It was a bit long, but looking back I couldnt pick a single part to remove. Bill Murray was fantastic comic, surreal relief in serious moments. This movie has elements to entertain a wide variety of people love, heartache, revolution, life, death, music, family.... it has it all.

I just loved the movie. it is as realistic as it is emotional. I could relate to it. It was so moving when the main character was torn from his family, half of the theater was in tears. A must see!!!

I most admit that, originally, I went to see this movie out of support for Andy Garcia. When a man commits to his dream and realizes it through work and sweat,(a la Mel Gibson) he is worthy of recognition and rewards. That been said, I wholeheartedly recommend this motion picture. It will go down as a masterpiece as one of the most true to fact stories of exiles ever exposed on film. This is not a Cuban story its a human story. Everyone that sees this film will find something theyll identify themselves with, no matter what their background. If you want your children to know what their grandparents went through, what they gave up, what all those stories they tell are about, take them too to see this epic. Youll be glad you did. Maybe you can talk about it around the dinner table, as a family, at six oclock sharp, not a minute later.

A must see. A poignant, lavish, nostalgic masterpiece. Garcia brings to the screen a slice of history, a piece of a country in turmoil and change. The characters are very true to life, any immigrant will identify with the sorrow, the good byes, the decisions to be made, and will mourn their own Lost City The music is spectacular, the photography splendid, the acting is great. Regardless of your political views, this is a wonderful story, well done, in my estimation a true masterpiece.

This movie is a must see if you are a fan of this period of history and want to know more. The movie does an excellent job of describing what families in Cuba just before the revolution were going through. It also does an excellent job in showing todays children a bit of what Havana was like prior to the revolution. The style, music and way of life of the Cuban people were well portrayed. The only bad part is that the movie is not showing in enough theaters.

Nobody ever took the effort and time to recreate so strongly and colorfully the last days of a city that reflect a historical transition between two dras worldstically diferent worlds. The powerful musical element has the property to recreate something that is intrinsec to the culture of that period and will be unique and impossible to substitute. The directo adheres with absolute fidelity to History reflecting the brutality of both regimes. The message is very powerful.

Andy Garcias masterpiece of the true Cuban story of the revolution shows how families and friends were destroyed by Che and Fidel Castros view of what communism should have been. This film will show the real murderer that the idolized Che Gevara really was.

This movie was great. People can now see the REAL story behind Fidel Castros rise to power. Excellent movie, the acting and the directing was amazing. Andy Garcia was great, he fit into the roll perfectly, and Bil Murray did an excellent job as the comic relief. I originally thought the movie was going to be a bit boring, but it ended up being a great experience. It was a really, really good movie, I recommend it to anybody. -D
