The time restraints wouldnt allow for all the details and true extent of Amins brutality to be included, and certainly the stench of death, described by survivors, was missing, but you cant expect everything. I salute the actors and director for their performance and accurate portrayals.

Just an observation.
Otherwise excellent acting by all leading and supporting cast members. Was this review helpful? Imagine the stupidity here. Was this review helpful? The first hour is like sitting in a doctors office. The second hour is about a degree more interesting and just when the movie FINALLY picks up it ends. Was this review helpful? Not sure how accurate the doctors role in all of this is, but other historical events were accurately depicted. This movie takes you on a ride that never slows down. And Forest Whitaker deserves the award--what an absolute awesome actor! Was this review helpful? IT WAS DURING A TIME WHEN IF YOU LOOKED AT IDI AMIN STRANGLY YOU MIGHT BE LABELED AS A CONPIRATOR AGAINST THE PRESIDENT FOR LIFE AND YOUR FATE WAS IN HIS HANDS OR PARANOID MIND. I NO THAT AMIN DID HAVE ONE OF HIS WIVES KILLED BUT TO THINK THAT THIS YOUNG DOCTOR MADE ADVANCES TOWARDS HER LIKE THAT, MUST HAVE BEEN THE WRITERS CREATIVE LICENSES. TO THINK HE COULD HAVE HAD ANY OTHER WOMAN IN THAT COUNTRY. I DONT SEE HOW ANY PERSON COULD BE THAT STUPID OR NAIVE. OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS A GREAT MOVIE IM LOOKING FORWARD TO ADDING IT TO MY LIBRARY WHEN IT COMES OUT ON DVD. Was this review helpful? And to persons such as the Phantom, you need to first know what you are sepaking about before you talk about it. it is quite obvious that you know little or nothing of the struggles of the ppl of Uganda and therfore you should stay quiet Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 10/11/2006A review of The Last King of Scotland by Corrector840 Tell that dumb-ass Phantom that the movie is based on the nation of Uganda, not GHANA. The ignorant Phantom bashes the movie, calls it racist against the good people of Ghana and cant even get the country right. Idi Amin was the dictator of Uganda, not Ghana you dumb-ass. Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 9/29/2006A review of The Last King of Scotland by Anonymous Hollywood is beginning to give us a peek at some possible Oscar contenders for 2006. While I have had personal favorite films, I dont think they will have a shot for that prestigious, golden statue. The Last King of Scotland, at the very least, has one worthy nomination. Forest Whitaker delivers his best performance to date as the Ugandan leader, Idi Amin. His change from a nice politician to a brutal, scared Machiavellian is fascinating and Whitaker performs the role to perfection.
The Last King of Scotland, set in the 1970s, focuses on Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy) as he tries to remedy the medical problems in Uganda. He meets Idi Amin in an interesting situation and Idi decides he wants Nicholas to be his personal physician. Nicholas unwisely decides to do this and what follows is a look into Idis ferocious psyche.....

But if the story is familiar, the treatment isnt The film is phenomenally well directed by Kevin Macdonald and edited by Justine Wright to bring out every bit of scary volatility in the most casual interactions. Often seemingly encased in a film of sweat, so hyperconscious of his larger-than-lifeness that he comes off as almost serene in his derangement, Whitakers Amin is the kind of raging lunatic that only an actor who has made a specialty of quiet caginess could pull off so convincingly. Its great, and scary, to see Whitaker turn it up to 11 for once. By the way it opens September 27, 2006 in selected cities, and look for any nationwide on our future schedules. Based on the trailer, the events shown are as close to telling the truth as well ever be. Idi Amin (like ) murdered innocent citizens of Uganda and disposesed Ugandans of Indian heritage of their rightful property not to mention evicting them from their homes.
Idi Amin was the racist, not the movie. Was this review helpful? It has somewhat of a drama-action mix which i can always enjoy. Forest Whitaker really relates to the main character (Idi Amin) and gives the performance of a lifetime. Good Job Forest.
