His wife commits adultery with his best friend, and he's just taken a case, guarding an exotic dancer, the girlfriend of an ex-quarterback, banned from football for drug addiction.
The plot goes something like this: exotic dancer Cory(Halle Berry) is murdered for attemting to blackmail team owner (Noble Willingham), who is bribing politicians to legalize sports gambling. The senator who had Joe fired years earlier refuses the bribe. The team owner decides to kill the senator and frame Joe.
This is one of those movies where the main characters have knowledge of a conspiracy but insufficient evidence and must rush to save someone's life.
In between car chases, bombs, gunshots, and even a decapitation at the end are plenty of one-liners.
It's never explained what the opening scene, a pro-football player opening fire on the opposing team before turning the gun on himself has to do with anything. It's also unexplained why the people who organized the "professional hit" on exotic dancer Cory's life ransacked her appartment but left an incriminating tape in the answering machine which exposes the whole blackmail-bribery scheme. Certainly real mobsters would have checked this first thing.
An "ok" movie, (no "48 Hours") but enjoyable shootem-up buddy movie. Was this review helpful?
