I do not know who spit into some of these reviewer's coffee this morning, but you guys should learn to appreciate a finer quality type of movie. So many people are saying boring...boring...boring, but I find this movie far more entertaining than say, The Wedding Singer. SOmething that helped me appreciate this book even more was reading the Pulitzer Prize-winning book that this movie was based on. What an amazing book. Was this review helpful? And by the way I am only 11 years old and I rather watch a amazing perform movie then watch a movie by stupid B listers or PG movies ,I like movies by Johnny Deep,Julianne Moore,Renee Zellweger ,Nicole Kidman. You people could never appreciate insanity, fear, and love for the one true meaning of existence- Life.

This movie was excellent! My chest burst with the pounding of my heart, and my tears drenched my face. The acting was superb, and the subtle meanings of life were most comforting. Was this review helpful? It was dull and monotone. They had a good idea, but failed so miserably in showing it. This is what happens when people with no heart and soul try to make an artistic emotional film; it ends up with no heart or soul either! There is also the issue of all the women kissing. The only women that didn’t kiss were lesbians! Had they kissed it would have fit, but the others just felt out of place, leaving you wondering, “Why did that just happen?” I am a woman and I have suffered with depression most of my life and have contemplated suicide many times, but even I felt no connection with these women. They tried to convey all the emotions one feels when in that state, but could stir only within me- boredom. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Once again, Hollywood succeeds at glorifying a terrible movie that leaves the audience depressed and wondering what the hell they just saw! It's becoming more and more frequent that a picture like this is elevated to the sky and what exactly is the point? What values or lessons in life is this particular film portraying? It was very disappointing. I love the acting ability of Meryl, Nicole, and Juliette but what a waste of talent on a terrible film. Was this review helpful? It was depressing, confusing, and just a terrible movie, it wasn't even good acting on Nicole's part. Save yourself the trouble of wasting a good two hours. Was this review helpful? I almost vomited. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 3 users found this helpful My wife and I (and another lady we spoke to after the movie) didn't quite understand what this movie was about. The acting was great, but we did not think that it was deserving of ";Best Picture"; nomination. Was this review helpful? Although I have not read any of the associated literature, but I am going to, I found myselfe being transported inside the movie in the same way that one is when reading a good book. The acting by all was nothing short of brilliant paricularly by what was not said but implied being conveyed by gesture and silencer more important that the dialogue. Especially noteworthy were Kidman and Harris. I would urge everyone to see this film as it resonates as authentic and true to life. I am sure that I will see again in the theater and cannot wait until it is released on DVD so I can own it. It is beyond comprehension that anyone would call this a ";chick Flick"; unless they are brain dead. This is most certainly about real problems of mature personalilties and will evoke viewer contemplation for a long time to come. The musical scoore was the ";icing on the cake"; I cannot see how this move will become a CLASSIC in short order. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful The acting is superb. The Hours explores many of the themes of Mrs. Dalloway, but ignores a major theme. VW's Mrs. D. shows us what war does to an individual and to a nation. It deadens the ability to feel. The shell-shocked veteran, Septimus prided himself on his lack of emotion when his friend Evans dies in battle. Now he realizes that he has lost his ability to feel, to be human. The ruling class, Mrs. Dalloway's crowd, have lost their ability to feel and aren't aware of it. This theme is so pertinent today when war has been reduced to a made for TV movie of the week with a PR title like Dessert Storm, that I was disappointed that the author and the film didn't do more with it. Of course there is an analogy in today's society's too little, too late attitude toward finding a cure for aids. The film focuses on the themes of the inability of people to understand each other, to connect, the path not taken and the feminist theme taken from the empty life of Mrs. D. VW created Mrs. D. primarily to show the empty life of the thoughtless idle rich. In the film, an L.A. housewife, comfortable, but not rich, reads Mrs. D. and decides that her life as a 1950's heterosexual housewife with a loving husband and beautiful child equals death. Well acted, but I wanted to say, ";Take care of that child, that is life."; I think VW wrote Mrs. D. and To The Lighthouse, which evokes the tremendous loss of an entire generation in the Great War through the loss of a family, were written in VW's most rational lucid moments. The film is thought-provoking and worthwhile in other respects though. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful It *($@ed. Save your money. You dont even learn what the movie is about until and hour and half into it. Then you realize it is a movie geared toward specaial interest groups and homosexuals. That is cool if it is your kind of thing but dont waste our time with it. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 1/24/2003A review of The Hours by slargthorb ...and nicole kidman! jesu.. chris..!! she knocks it way out the ballpark. ed harris once again supports like no other. everything comes together for an overall great effect. dont go expecting laughs or anything but heaviness of course. the Hours somehow manages to have an uplifting sense, or at least a warmth, after all the empty pain. phillip glass' music makes a strong statement without intruding, several transitions between three time periods go smoothly, claire danes' youthful happiness is like a welcome bridge in a major key contrasting an otherwise minor-key brooding symphony. Adults: Go see it! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Do not recommend seeing this movie after a long, hard day. Jumps around too much. Tired of frustrated women thinking that turning to women is the only solution to their pathetic, confused lives. And why was she kissing her sister - what was that all about? Did she really want the neice? Made Michael Jackson almost look human. Guess I missed it because I was totally turned off 15 minutes into it. Should have left and demanded my money back.
