One reviewer said "a seriously scary freakout. I will grant you the monster was scary, if big mouth bass is one of your phobias. The most this mutant does is swallow a few people (actually you see some legs hanging from its mouth), regurgitate some bones (mysteriously they start to disappear slowly with each scene, the girl mostly likely got hungry stuck in the hole and ate them), and chases a group of people around like an eager dog (minus the stick). I will admit the monster swinging from the bridge was entertaining for the full minute during the entire 119-minute movie, but not enough for twenty dollars worth.
As for the special effects, they weren't. The shadow moving under the water wasn't convincing; neither was the fire which ultimately burned the creature. The creature itself I admit was well done; too bad it reminded me of the creature from "Relic" and not done quite as well or as scary.
I'm ending here with this bit of advice, watch Jaws instead or any other monster movie. Was this review helpful? Looking for to more of the Host. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 7/28/2007A review of The Host by Reality702 Turned out to be a great flick.
thought the cgi would look stupid,i was wrong.
plus the monster was original and moved original and was kinda scary.
you couldn't predict the end,as i thought i would.
it was simply a great monster flick.
a sequel is already in the planning and i just hope they can pull it off as good as the first.
be nice to see an american version of this with even better effects, but the effects were great as was the story and directing. shots and the monster itself.
it was not all about the monster itself and ya got to know the characters and felt for them....
the next day i couldn't stop and help thinking about how good a movie i had just watched lastnight. i loved it.
rent it... buy it.... wait for the sequel, which i doubt will be as good as this one is.
the way it was made was right on cue.
it is one of the best monster movies to date.
5 stars for surprizing me.... Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Surprisingly great film that hits all the right notes as a horror, a comedy, and a drama. Plot about a monster resulting from environmental damage and threatens a dysfunctional family sounds stupid but is effective entertainment. If all the Godzilla movies I cherished as a kid were like this I would have turned out to be a better person. Was this review helpful? Having grown up with dubbed Kung Fu movies and classics like Godzilla, this movie was a super huge helping of nostalgia. I really think the only thing missing was the really bad english dubbing. The subtitles were fine, but the cheeseball factor could have been moved up a notch in my opinion.
All in all, a really fun movie that kept you on the edge of your seat. Funny, Serious, Thrilling and Scary all in one. A must see!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful I saw this movie in Paris in Corean with French subtitles. Even if i couldnt understand a lot of the dialogue it didnt lose a thing. The acting is fantastic, the characters are believable and the HOST is terrifying. Its scary without being tasteless and funny and touching without being corny. A MUST SEE. ) Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 3/9/2007A review of The Host by Morpheus29 It has been what seems like an eternity, since anyone has made a truely scarey MONSTER movie. Im not talking slasher or typical horror hollywood junk that we are bombarded with on a constant basis.......Im talking about the mixture of fear and fun that we use to get, from watching stuff like The Creature from the Black Lagoon, or The Howling, or Jaws.......now we have The Host. Its about time! This movie is everything you could want in a Monster movie....and even manages to make you laugh on occasion. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Guys, grab your girl, take her to see this....you both will absolutely love this movie! Was this review helpful?
