It had no "real" plot, with these verrry predictable characters, with no real talent for acting!! The characters were unbelievable at best! Black's role was expendable and would have been just as "tired" had Lassie or Benji (which I might add was very good in "Benji the Hunted!") had performed them... These women, where do they get these female, so-called actresses from, I declare! No talent, no real (inner) beauty, no physical beauty and no, as was so misrepresented in the movie, NO GUMPTION!!!!!
I'm glad I didn't waste any money at the movies or even renting on DVD for this 2+hour bag of air. What I did notice was the very familiar background music that had such a striking resemblence to that of "Somthings Gotta Give" which happened to be on at the same time so I flipped the channels during the scenes just to hearsee the similarity... I was right.. Only a couple notes changed to "protect the bad acting!!!!" Was this review helpful? The performance of Diaz was particularly galling. She is truly terrible, and the plot is so mindless and unchallenging, it will please only the least demanding viewer. Typical of the schmoltz we've come to expect from Hollywood. And if my girlfriend is reading this - honey, you picked it, not me. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Best romantic comedy in yearsPosted: 4/16/2007A review of The Holiday by sonu_bajwa Are u guys kiddin me??? i read so many reviews n after that i decided to write one .. i guess someone needs to do a lil justice to the great movie .. its one refreshing romantic movie that i saw after such long time .. n dats not it .. most of the romantic movies end up making everyone sad n low ... dis one makes u feel gud rather great .. i fell in love with the snow n peace of england n no usage of crude language is something very rare .. nw ppl i dont understand wat more u look for when u go to watch a romantic movie???? perhaps this is not one of the sex flick if dats what u guys are looking for but sure as hell it.. n wh is a great romantic movie o cares what these characters are in real life??? someone gave it ONE STAR just coz that person cant relate JUDE LAWS real life character with the one he plays in this movie.. whoa dude .. get a life!!!! rate this movie based on the characters that are being played in it n not based on the real life of the actors playiin it!!! Jude Law seems to be a type of self-involved person that would abandon his own mother if she asked him to hand her the medicine from the cabinet. And Jack Black seems to have had a childhood that he burnt too many brain cells in and partied too much and became clueless. I think these individually were not suitable to play these roles, which led to a feeling of falsehood in the plot. Was this review helpful? Kate Winslet is lovely and her character is very appealing. Her story line with Jack Black is also very appealing. He is surprisingly good in this role and they make a cute pair. Cameron Diaz, while beautiful, is just awful in this movie. She overacts, being over the top goofy and clutzy, and completely unbelievable at times. Jude Law is well cast as the town casanova (a role that hits close to home) who falls for Cameron. The little girls save the storyline for Cameron and Jude. The movie ends sweetly for all. Its pretty much Cameron and Jude making out, or her just walking around throwing a fit or just looking around. Kate was the best part of this moving. I wish the moving had been about her. There were too many story lines going on to get to involved with any one character. Jack was good for some laughs too. We are avid chick-flick movie goers and this was up there with our favorites. The characters were all perfect, with the exception of Jack Black, they really didnt develop the relationship well between him and Kate. I didnt like Jude Law much until I saw this film as well. He was so sweet and adorable as the lonely single father of 2 little girls - the tent scene was the best scene in the movie by far. It ended well and realistically and I cant wait to pick this one up on DVD. Was this review helpful? I disagree with people saying that Cameron Diaz does the same character all the time. Its true that she sticks to the Romantic Comedy genre, with exceptions like Vanilla Sky and the Mask, but her characters are different if you really watch them. Kate Winslet is breathtaking in her first romantic comedy and Ive never really been a Jude Law fan but I dont hate him. Amazing quotes can be had from this movie, and the ending is sweet.
