This is a temporary review..... I have not yet seen the movie, (though I yearn to), and due to circumstances beyond my control, may not see it for some time. From everything written here, it seems to be JUST the kind of film I want to see! However....I think I might have, (or rather, will), like it better, had NATALIE PORTMAN been cast in at least a supporting role, as the Duchess' sister or friend. Seeing beautiful KEIRA KNIGHTLY, acting with equally beautiful Ms. Portman, (who do look somewhat alike, despite Ms. Portman's shorter stature), would be a BIG treat, indeed! (Please remember this, producers, for the next film -- especially, the next costume film -- either of these fine actresses appear in!) Hopefully, I'll be able to write a more comprehensive review, once I see the movie! Thanks for reading, ( and publishing!) this!

Great period piece. Interesting how parents pushed their daughters into marrying UP regardless of love, feelings or age of the groom. Great costumes and great acting

I loved this movie: the acting was impeccable, costumes beautiful and the plot was a great example of how women were treated by men. In lockstep with social norms the women's families encouraged them to accept this treatment which was equilvalent to attention given to the family dogs.

Very ponderous and slow moving. The acting was poor. The costumes were incredible but not worth the price of admission. Wait for it on DVD if you really want to see it.

This is a good but not great film. Beautiful and well acted but somewhat lacking in punch. It just gets boring and dull. Worth the money if you like this type of money but don't look for it at Oscar time.

This was a beautiful movie...the scenery, the costumes, and Kiera Knightley's gorgeous face. The story was very interesting....made more so because it is based on actual events in history. It shows how much heartache and cruel treatment women have endured through history at the hands of unscrupulous men. It also shows how few rights and choices women had then as compared to today. The duchess learns the only advocate she has is herself....she is betrayed by her husband, her friend, and even her mother. In the end, her motherly instincts drive her to make a difficult, life changing choice. If you have the chance, go see it.

The Dutchess with Kiera Knightly was a beautiful movie set in the 18th century about the Dutchess of Yorkshire. True story. I was apaulled at the behavior of a husband her treated more like a door mat than a strong, beautiful, courteous level headed woman that she is. The man was an adulterer and a jackass with no respect for women. All he cared about was a male heir. The movie was two hours and worth every penny. I never expected her to continue in this indifferent relationship with the man she married and her husbands whore, but I understood there were not alot of choices back in those days. She went through so much and I applaude her for that. Keira Knightly did a wonderful job as the Dutchess. Kudos to her lovely work as the Dutchess and beautiful scenery. I loved it. :)
