The Devil Wears Prada is not a film about fashion. This movie is about power, specifically, the rare phenomena of a woman in power in corporate America. Upon learning that husband number three wants a divorce, Meryl Streeps character is allowed a momentary indulgence in what amounts to clarity more than self-pity. She agonizes over how the media will portray her and this apparent failure in her personal life, raging that she would never receive such caustic treatment were she possessed of testosterone. The character subjugates her humanity in order to maintain her position as a woman highly placed in the American world of business she does so easily and seemingly effortlessly, demanding excellence from her subordinates and in return setting an example of magnificent personal accountability which is relentless, determined, gracious, unrelentingly disciplined and consistent and ultimately courageous and powerful. She creates her life and re-invents herself in her personal fashion statement every day. She chooses who she will support in a masterful display of diplomacy and genteel politics in which she manages to earn the respect, support and admiration of all of her colleagues. This in itself is a remarkable feat. Ultimately, this character sets an amazing example to the character portrayed by Anne Hathaway. Hathaways character opts to forsake the fashion world and commit herself to writing and in remaining true to her passion this character follows the example of her mentor, the editor. I thoroughly enjoyed Streeps performance as the ice queen and see truth in how women must park their humanity at the door in order to succeed in the patriarchal world of business. Nuff said.

this was a very great movie probably thanks to the extraordinary acting of the entire cast especially Meryl Streep cause Meryl fits in to this role as she fits into a real mothers role in life. I suggest this movie for people of all ages because me, my cousin, and our 6 year old cousin were watching it.

This is a great chickFlick But a better acting and cinematic piece than anything it is trying to say about the fashion industry or our pitiful lives outside it. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and the rest of the cast hold the realism together excellently. New York and Paris are seen but do not overwhelm the scenes. The MUSIC on the other hand could not have set a better mood and been more transparent to let the beautiful actresses to their craft. It was a great combination of top artiists and independent blended together to create a seamless soundtrack that drives the pace of the film and slows it down at just the needed times. I RECOMEND IT, EVEN FOR GUYS, AND ESPECIALLY ANYONE WHO WANTS TO AHEAD IN LIFE-LOVE-relationships. Thank you Nick Meyers.

As with most of the books that have been turned into movies, the movie butchered the book. Not quite as bad as Anne Hathaways earlier blunder of a movie Ella Enchanted where the only things similar were the title and the curse on Ella. Seriously if you havent read that book its amazing. Devil Wears Prada though takes out most of the good plotlines that was in the book, for instance (spoiler) Nate was not a chef in the book but a teacher for underprivlidge kids. Lily was not this famous art person(at least I think that who they were trying to portray her friend as) but an alcohalic russian lit grad student and there was no corporate scandal in paris with the french vogue lady all that was completely made up for the movie, her husband didnt leave Miranda and didnt feel like Mr. Priestly, the Harry Potter thing was blown way bigger in the Movie( in the book they got it one day before it hit the shelves, and she actually only got one copy) and Andy left Paris because Lily was in a coma because of a car accident. Like I said its a cute movie, but the book was way better.

OMG...I LOVED,LOVED, LOVED this movie!!! My husband even loved this movie! Meryl Streep reigns as the queen of all corporate execs. You REALLY want to hate her, but my husband and I found nothing but respect for her character. Was she cold and difficult? Yes, but she has earned the right to be...she expects the best out of herself and trusts her instincts completely. She expects the same from everyone around her. Is that a fault?...No, that is a will to achieve perfection, and fulfill what people rely on her for. I actually admired her character for her strength and conviction. It is a true testament to Ms. Streeps ability as an actress to say so little, say it so calmly, and have everyone in an uproar to try to please her. It is really nice to also see Anne Hathaway break out a little sexuality in a role. She is so cute, but she is absolutely gorgeous in this movie. My ONLY beef with this movie is her relationship with her boyfriend Adrian Grenier. Other than sex, it really appears like these two have little in common. It appears like they have common goals, but it is discussed very briefly. I would have liked to see more depth there, being as though things hinged so much on the shape of their relationship.

Im sorry I rented this movie! What a waste of money. I dont understand the good reviews. It was so boring I stopped watching it about three quarters of the way through. The fashion in the movie was okay. In fact, that was the only good thing about this movie. Unfortunately, fashion can only carry a movie so far before you turn it off or fall asleep.

This movie was so sweet. Everything about it made you just wanna smile, and Anne Hathaways character is completely believable. Although it didnt have anything new to teach, it was still a great movie with great acting and direction. Loved it!! )

This movie is great for kicking back and relaxing with some friends (most suitably female friends). Its funny and Mirandas ridiculous expectations are something I think all of us can relate to at some point in time in our lives. Go see it!

I thought this movie was overall pretty good. I didnt think any of the comedy was too racey or sexual, it was just a funny story line. At times, it was a little slow, but I think that just had to do with all of the montages showing Anne Hathaways character in different outfits, day after day, blah de blah de blah. I thought the writers didnt go along with the book very well though, so dont think you know how it ends if youve read it. I would really reccomend it!

Wow! This movie was well-worth watching. Meryl Streep is fabulous as the magazine editor with ice water in her veins, an eye for fashion and a look and voice that would make your thong twist in knot. It is scary that this is probably a true depiction of how ruthless things are in the fashion world. Anne Hathaway is so stunningly beautiful...you can see her beauty grow and intensify as the movie progresses....along with her wardrobe! A definite must-see chick flick for anyone who has ever read a fashion magazine, enjoys shopping, likes clothes and shoes.....that is about 80 of us!!
