But the ending was so bad. It ruined the movie. Honestly, i still dont get the ending. Was this review helpful? It was scary, but the monsters werent really that freaky. They looked like that monster in PULSE that was in the bathroom listening to the main character as she was quite sure something was in the stall next to her. So, the monsters arent scay, but the small caves, bone breakings, and the scenes where those things were eating like savages were scary. The light and setting made me a little angry because i couldnt see whos killing who. however, this is a good movie. Was this review helpful? Yes, not GREAT, wow blow you out of your chair but lets admit it here, this movie had suspence and thrill. It kept you guessing and it was twisted. It was good. Was this review helpful? There were some good seat jumper parts, but the fight scenes tended to be cofusing on who was winning. Very Dark, hard to tell characters apart. Id like to say pass on this movie, but it might give some viewer a little more scare then it did with me. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 1/22/2007A review of The Descent by Anonymous Terrible. The movie had repetitive and boring fight scenes, no historical explanation of the cave-dwellers, terrible acting, poor attempts at character developement, bad cinemetography that left the viewer wondering what they are looking at, a rediculous attempt at some kind of philosophical ending, and unlikely scripting. Just terrible, though to be fair there were a few scenes (3 at most) with some good scary shots in it. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 1/7/2007A review of The Descent by Cruisinsmooth Trust me...this is no Alien! While entertaining at times and tedious at others,
it falls somewhere between 1950s B horror flicks and slicker, more professionally done fare such as The Shining or The Exorcist.
This movie, while trying to derive it power from the pure shock value found in movie franchises like Friday the 13th and Halloween, seeks to leave a little more to the imagination...for awhile. Though to be praised for attempting to develop the characters, this attempt is too drawn out and the characters very stereotypical....doesnt every movie with females facing horrific circumstances have to have at least one foul mouthed, testosterone fueled lesbian?
But...all in all...Ive seen worse ! I did like the little twist ending and the
special effects were above average. My advice...put your sense of reason on hold, get out the popcorn, your favorite beverage, and add this to your Fright Night library. Was this review helpful? That was the best part of the whole movie. I bought it on DVD expecting it to be awesome from all the great reviews but it !@ed big time. I dont recommend it to anybody. It didnt expalin about the creatures who they were or where they came from. I knew right from the beginning what was going to happen at the end and I was right. It didnt scare me at all, I didnt think it was gory enough. I never jumped once or cringed. It almost put me to sleep. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 12/29/2006A review of The Descent by Disappointed_Critic I just bought this movie on DVD tonight. And the honest opinion that I can give of this movie is that I really wish I could have watched it in the theater before I bought it. The reason for that statement is because I just could not get that creepy, I am alone in this cave feeling. But, I think this movie had too many moments where it showed disorientation of claustrophobia. And honestly, I do have claustrophobia. But, this movie makes me think if I really am safe anywhere. This movie is very deserving of the five stars, because it is scary until the ending. I seriously did not understand the ending, and I can not interpret it any further, because I think that the ending should have been different. The deleted scenes on the DVD are enough to prove why that ending is correct. I guess I have to watch it again to understand the ending. And so, I want to end this here, because I want to watch the scene selection. Peace. Was this review helpful? I do recommend this movie to anyone who loves scary and gory flicks. It had suspense and gruesome scenes. Its a grea moviet to watch on Halloween with your friends. This would be my top choice movie rental. I think out of all the movie Ive watched this season, I think this was the best. It was like the movie cave but much better. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 9/14/2006A review of The Descent by 99887760 I dont usually go to chick flicks but made an exception here due to the uncommonly good reviews this horror film has received. And deserves. The acting, direction, photography, and special effects are all very good. I thought the crawlers were well conceived and pretty scary at that. The movie comes into its own in the last 15 minutes with the choices that are made by Sarah (Shauna MacDonald) under the most dire circumstances. Her performance, in particular, will stay with you for awhile. Was this review helpful? My boyfriend finds almost all horror flicks to be lame(thats how most men are), but he loved this one, so when guys think a scary movie is good, you know it is! The plot was great, completely different from any other horror film.. A-mazing, its a must see! Go with your other half, and hopefully you wont be sleeping alone that nite. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 9/5/2006A review of The Descent by doggiejewel_linz The Descent is by far one of the best horror movies Ive seen. Its completely insane and believable. Being from Kentucky, the movie made us look like deranged maniacs that have no life, but even still...
My boyfriend went with me. His response was It was okay not the best one Ive ever seen.
