Posted: 5/19/2006A review of The Da Vinci Code by Dara63721
In reading a few of these reviews, it seems apparent to me that not many folks writing them have actually seen the film, but are instead commenting on the subject matter and espousing their own belief systems. I thought a movie review was to inform the reader on the merits of the film - casting, directing, cinematography, storyline, etc. If you care to denounce the book or movie based on your own beliefs, start a blog. If you would like to comment on the actual film, I suggest you pay your 10 bucks and see it in a theater this weekend. I, for one, will be actually viewing the movie before passing any judgement on it.

No one can prove that this book is any different from the bible. In that, both could be true or false. Why dont the crazy religious just not go see the movie? Why press your beliefs onto others who could care less. If Jesus did-does exist...hed be ashamed. Nothing has caused more war and suffering than the religion---Catholic Christian or otherwise...and people are catching on to it.

I need to say the book is wonderful. It is a great story, and yes there are people that think this is true. The one thing that I need to say is I am so tired of the narrow minded Republican Christian freaks. KEEP YOUR opinions to yourself. I really think this country is in the need of new leadership. Seperation of Church and State Folks!! The Catholic church is having a fit over this movie and book. You know in history there was the Catholic crusades. If you were not Catholic they killed you on the spot, you have priest being found guilty of molestation and murder. I really need to say that if Jesus Christ was here what he would say about the catholic church???? Hummmm. The Catholic faith as a whole is so far off of Christ Like Attributes its unreal. Then you have your bible thumping Christians that say give me your money and you will be saved. And not to mention they are the first judge other people by what they think the norm is.(In the Bible it states, Judge Not, that you be not judged.) You all need to pull your heads out and be more open minded. We all have the choice and the freedom to choose. I choose not to be critcle of others because of the color of their skin, or their sexual orinitation, or weather they are christian or not, I dont tell people to give me money for preaching the word of God, also known in the bible as Preist Craft. I am going to see the movie. Because I want too. I hope, I am not ever as narrow minded as some of these people are. If you dont want to see it thats fine but allow other people to make the choice and stop judging them because they want to see it.

No, most people writing reviews on this site have not yet seen the movie, nor have I, as it has just opened today. So why the strong, even insulting reviews posted here? People, Dan Browns book is a work of FICTION nothing in it is to be taken as fact. Moreover, the movie (also fiction) is an adaptation of the book. Honestly, people reading this site want to know about the quality of the movie. Anyone?? I will see it soon regadless of reviews, but Id like to know what other people think (of the MOVIE). I (pre-viewing) give Howard, Goldsman, et al. 4 stars for keeping things under wraps until now and bringing to the screen a very intriguing (fictional) story. No, Tom Hanks is not how I pictured Langdon, but I cannot think of an actor that would be. And Audrey Tatou is wonderful - glad to see her in a US film of such magnitude. Cant wait to see the film.

In high school (many years ago) we had to do reports on who we thought was the greatest genious ever. I chose Lenardo Da Vinci. When this book first came out I of course had to run out and buy it. I loved it of course. Being raised in a baptist home I knew this was going to agitate alot of christians. Why are they so angry about this fictional book? I think the answer is obvious, because there are two different sides to christians. Those who think for themselves and but believe anyway, and those who believe whatever they are told by the church never questioning anything. I think that christianity is so upset because there are people out there questioning the truthfullness for the first time. They are thinking this may not be true, but what has been altered and how would they know? Personally I believe in a God- but I do not believe in the bible being an accurate reliable source of information. I have been told too many times in my life (when I had a question concerning the bible) Ithe answer was you must believe it all or none of its credibility will hold. I love the way christians are quoting it in argument like anyone cares but them about what it says.. I suppose I could walk around quoting shakespear and insist it is the word of god and if enough people would believe me, I could get away with it. It is about what the masses perceive. Christianity is afraid of losing its mindless sheep, because how would they keep the money comming in? They would lose their glorious 10 (not including the influence) christianity conviently propvides.

I think that this book and movie are very interesting and should be enjoyed as works of fiction. I think the real problem is not with the book, its with the people who read or watch things and believe them. Yes, just about everything that Dan Brown pulled from history is BASED on an actual event or place, etc, but if anyone took the time to seek the truth for themselves they would realize that he distorted and omitted facts to make history fit his plot. I am not saying he needs to be burned at the stake, ITS A FICTIONAL WORK. For example, Dan Brown suggests that Mary Magdalene is seated at the right hand of Jesus in Da Vincis painting of the Last Supper. Yes, the figure looks very feminine, but if anyone looked for the real reason they would learn that John was (I believe) the youngest of the apostels, and in keeping with the student style of painting that Da Vinci would have used to depict him, John would have had boyish features, long hair and no facial hair. Know any of the young guys today with long hair that look like women??? I sure do. Or when Brown says the vote to observe Jesus as deity at the Council of Nicaea was very close. In actuality, there were over 300 present at the vote of the Council of Nicaea, and only two did not want to name Jesus as the Son of God, every written record of the council has survived so we know that Browns view is not correct, but the close call makes for a much more interesting read, dont ya think?

Posted: 5/19/2006A review of The Da Vinci Code by Josina_3
If you look at the painting of The Last Supper you will see that there is one of the 12 disciples that look like very femenine. That disciple is sitting next to Jesus, when he anounced that one of them had betrayed him. Why did Da Vinci painted that disciple so femenine? There must be a reason. Could it be that Mary Magdalene was one of the 12 disciples? We would never know... In The Bible Mary Magdalene had a bad name? But why? The Bible was written by men. Men gave her that bad name. But maybe she was an important person in the life of Jesus. Maybe she was secretly married to him..Maybe she even baired His child. I do not say this all is true. But think about it. Just like Judas.. We always believed that he was the one who betrayed Jesus. But just like they say Maybe he was the only one who did what Jesus ask him to do. Why did he gave Jesus a kiss when he hand Him over? Why didnt he just pointed at him or just told them wich one was Jesus? A kiss is very simbolic. Maybe it wasnt a betrayed-kiss...Maybe it was just a simbol that he has done what Jesus told him to do.

Based on THE book of all books, which in the end is nothing but an elaborate document of morals of historical values, men and woman of faith, scholars, white and blue collared individuals alike, get bent out of shape. Once we all begin to realize that the bible was merely written and printed by men to hold on to something that can be considered a guideline of values and is NOT the ultimate credo of life, but a simple book of suggestive, yet antique, measures, then we should all be able to view the book, the movie and last but not least, the Vatican as what they are. None deserves to be viewed uncritically, everything should be positively questioned, extract what will be of value to you. In short, open your minds people, accept the fact that sometimes even fiction can go along with facts. Believe in God, but also believe that God and evolution has given you an inquisitive mind to question and not just blindly accept...Amen.

No I havent seen the movie yet since the movie here doesnt even start till 4pm. But I am a fan of the book. I have seen every trailer for the and Ive been dying since I learned the movie was coming 2 years to see it. But my problem is as I was reading some of these reviews was coming across the christian fanatics who dont understand their own bible. I dont care what you believe in. You cant make me believe you by saying Christ was an Almighty Virgin like his mother. No the story is God wanted to see what it was like to be human. Soo He had Himself born as human! And back during those times you had to marry, you had to have children. So you cant tell me Christ didnt espeacailly when he was 30 something when he died! That was considered middle-age back then since most people didnt live past 40 years old. So you good christian fanatics... leave the movie alone. People dont appeciate haveing your Faith shoved down their throat. It usually causes acid reflux in a bad way. As I said I cant till the movie opens Ill be sitting in my middle seat, thats the best spot, and enjoying the movie.

Voting wont lead us anywhere, since this is Satans Vs Gods children voting. The movie wont hurt more the dead ones, just like abortion, fornication, adultery, illegal drugs, divorce, home violence, corruption, whispering and pornography wont do it...but will affect the innocent, the saved and the undecided. This is just matter of who you TRUST and rely on. If you just BELIEVE, be aware that Satan also believes, and trembles. If you love Christ then Why to PLAY with fire? Dont be led by a morbid pleasure the movie does not deserve to be seen, and wont help you at all, since you already know the truth. For you, undecided and confused ones pick your side, there are only 3 choices, and I dont recommend the dark side nor the one in the middle (if you do not want to be vomited by the Almighty one). If you are already feel dead, and feel that nothing fills you and, after momentary pleasure, you feel the same -or worse-, then seek God and ask Jesus for help. Hes been waiting for you with OPEN arms. You only need to trust Him, rely on Him and receive His unconditional LOVE and LIFE. Jesus is the ONLY judge, so I dont want to judge anyone. Im as imperfect as everybody thats why I need Him too. Make the choice of your life, once and for all.

I am a fundamental, southern, republican, Christian and I thorougly enjoyed The Da VInci Code. It was well written and had an exciting plot. It is important to remember though that the book (movie) is not a theological commentary, it is not a sermon, or a science book. IT IS A WORK OF FICTION! Christians who are loudly objecting to the book are only providing free publicity for Dan Brown. I am certain that this book was written, not because Mr. Brown holds that the ideas in his novel are true, but because the ideas would cause a stir. He knew, (and so did his publishers!) that the book would be quite controversial, and would therefore make a boatload of money! None of this has been about seeking the truth, or defaming the Catholic Church, it has been about the money. And by continuing to exclaim over the wrong done to the church and to Christians everywhere, we are only prolonging the phenomenon! So quit it! Read your bible...pray...ask God to help you to deal with this, and to prepare you to minister to those who have been affected by the ideas in the book. You can use all the fuss as an opportunity to tell people the TRUTH about Jesus. Remember that all things happen according to Gods will...so see this as an opportunity to serve Him in a new way!

If your faith is where it is supposed to be, then why would you protest anything? Let everyone who is anyone, watch what they want, when they want. You know your own morals and values. If this movie book affects you, then it is apparent that your faith is not as strong as you think. It shouldnt matter to anyone what you believe. That is why they are called your beliefs. People need to let go, become open minded, and not cast stones where they needent be cast. Be strong, be self-reliant, and have the faith that you believe you need. Its a movie folks, not the end of the world. Thats on its way. Priorities, people, priorities. I believe we need to be a little less concerned with who is saying what and be more concerned with what we are actually doing on the planet and what we are doing to it. The end will come if we dont change our ways as a human race. This is where our stong faiths and beliefs as a race should benefit one another and not destroy one another. Love all and hate none. Peace be with all.
