As a book, The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe served an opulent dose of heart, humor, and adventure, from a childs standpoint. As a movie, the same subjects in the childrens book run a little deeper. The main characters are the four siblings, Peter, the eldest brother, Susan, Edmund, the betrayer of the group, and Lucy, the one who discovered the magical world in the wardrobe. Remarkably, the four children actually look like siblings and behave like such to the point where you cant differentiate where the characters end and the actors begin. Kudos to Tilda Swinton who plays the villainous White Witch, scheming to destroy the four children as they pose unexpected threats to her power. As the story progresses, the four children encounter the mighty lion, Aslan. This is where C.S. Lewis shows that he drew his strengths and influences from his faith, as strong symbolic statement are made throughout the film. Edmund runs into trouble with the White Witch and Aslan literally lays down his life in the place of Edmund and later returns to kill the White Witch. This climatic point in the film could be seen as a clear allegory of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When the siblings meet their brother once again, they welcome him with open arms and forgive him of his treachery. A tear jerking moment which definitely makes this film Oscar-worthy. These themes are obviously derived from Christian ideals and principles and because of thus, the movie is categorized as religious when in fact nothing could be further from the truth. This movie is a magnificent work of art and displays the true heart and soul of humanity through the brave acts of fauns, centaurs, griffins, and other mythical figures. And although the film has references to Christianity, and theres nothing wrong with that, it is the underlying message and themes that really bring out the best of the characters and the best of the film.

I grew tired of reading excellent reviews, seeing it near the top of the movie ratings, and hearing others say how good it was without seeing it myself so I finally broke down and checked it out. Im sorry that I wasted my time. This movie was one of the few that I have actually walked out on, and I was not the only one who left the theater the day I went to see it. For all of you adults who write about how you went to see it with your children but ended up loving the movie yourself please stop. This movie no doubt holds interest for young children but for anyone over the age of 13 please, I REPEAT, please do not waste your time. This is a childrens movie and nothing more, that is unless you actually like watching a movie where one of the heroines is a talking beaver. So unless youre an adult with a very infantile mind please dont waste your money seeing this childrens movie, you will be disappointed.

It was the best adventure film i have ever seen. It was about four children who got evacuated to the country side in world war two. They went to live with a man who is called the professor. And lucy the little sister decides to play hide and seek and accidentally discovered the magical wardrobe of narnia. She meets a thoun called Mr tumnus and he invites her for tea .And mr tumnus tells her about the evil white witch of narnia. she gets her brothers and sisters Peter, Edmond and Susan they have to fight the evil whitch of narnia whith the help of a lion called Aslan. Which is king of narnia they have some set backs though when Edmond Lucys brother betrays them by lying to them several times and helping the white witch for turkish delight.

Very beautiful movie. The visual effects are incredible. The computer graphics (CG) blended perfectly with the live action. The locations were also breath-taking. The director did a bang-up putting this movie together. I especially loved the mythological creatures and their places in the movie, like the centaurs (from Greek mythology) and the phoenix during the final battle scene (that was a good one, too). This one is a DVD owner when it comes out.

Read the book first, before you see this movie. You will enjoy it a lot more and you will appreciate the fantastic job Disney has done in creating this movie. They really were faithful to the book, which is a great thing because its a classic. I went to go see this movie with my wife and several times throughout the movie we were both crying because of the powerful message given through the story. This movie is just a really well done piece of work. The characters were perfect. The casting was perfect. Everything was perfect. This movie just has such a big heart, it makes you want to see it again and again. C.S. Lewis would be proud. I will definatly be buying this on DVD.

This movie was absolutely amazing! My husband and I took 3 of our children, ages 8, 4 and 3 to see it, and we all loved it!! They keep begging to go back and see it again. My son actually loved the movie so much, he asked for the book set which I just bought for him. What a great incentive to get a kid to read! I read the books in school when I was younger and loved them then. I have to say, Disney did an excellent job recreating the books into this movie. The characters were very well portrayed and they captured the whole essence of the story. I especially love Lucy, she was absolutely adorable. But they all did a great job. I highly recommend this movie to everyone of all ages. I will definitely be buying this DVD as soon as it comes out!!

When I went to see Narnia I expected some LOTR rip off that strayed away from the book. But deep down inside me there was a glimmer of hope. And I am now glad I went to see it. It did not stray from the book, but was different enough to not be Unoriginal.

The Chronicles of Narnia fell victim to the same problem that so many movies have these last few years. When Peter Jackson used the silver screen to bring to life the legendary Lord of the Rings trilogy, attention was also brought to the other famous novel series written in the time of Lord of the Rings... Narnia. There has been much speculation as to the relationship of the belated authors of these two series, but nonetheless they have been looked at side by side for years. Naturally, when Jackson had such phenominal success with Tolkiens books, people were expecting the same level of passion to be put into the Chronicles of Narnia. Disney, however, simply failed to do so. Though it is a great family movie, and certainly aimed at a younger audience, it can no longer be looked at along side The Lord of the Rings. Granted, if you have never read any of the books and understand nothing of the legend behind (or underlined religeous theory in) these books, you will probably enjoy the movie very much as a great movie of fantasy and family. But I, for one, have lost a small amount of respect for Disney for not taking it as far as Jackson.

As a grown woman who had never read the books, I was not aware of the underlying christian content when we went to see the movie. However, the movie was excellent even though now some things make more sense (knowing about the christian theme). My husband and I took our 8 year old son and we were all captivated by the fantasy! There were some really cheesey moments, but an absolute wonderful family movie. I just wish those idotic adults who were sitting behind us would have SHUT UP! They talked throughout the entire movie and were a serious distraction. Note to the rude We paid good money to watch a movie not hear someone else talk! If you want to talk go sit in your car and save your money.

I want to applaud Disney for their great adaptation of C.S. Lewis classic tale. Although Mosjo posted that this is the 2nd book, this is actually incorrect. When Lewis published the series in England, The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe was the 1st book. The Magicians Nephew was published second to last as a pre-qual before you read the conclusion of the series, The Last Battle. When the series was exported to be printed in the U.S., publishers were concerned that the American public wouldnt get it, so they switched the order of the books to read chronologically, but not as Lewis originally intended. Part of the magic of the series is not knowing how The Line of Adam Eve and the history of the Kings Queens was begun until after you have been exposed to the whole world of Narnia. But I digress. The movie is great. Viewers who go into it looking for the LOTR will be disappointed, because that was never what the books were meant to be. And you can argue all day about whether the movie is too Christian or not Christian enough, but the movie is really about this different paralell world into which 4 children stumble. Whether you want to see it as an allegory, a fantasy series, or a good story in the lone of Alice in Wonderland, just go and see this movie and enjoy it for what it is an expression of imagination that incorporates some of the grandest themes of humanity.

well, laying down the facts objectively, i should say this was an excellent movie exceeding perfection. i found myself clinging the edge of my seat through out the movie n though 15 i loved it. the acting, the animation, the music, the costumes, the script etc were all flawless brilliant. lucy, susan, peter, edmund and the witch were played exceptionally well. true, i found a good deal of similarity between this movie n LOTR but after all Lewis n Tolkien were great friends n the movie did not fail for a second to thrill, excite, delight, mystify, intrigue and humour me. inshort, this is a must buy movie n i advise it to everyone who has even a wee bit of imagination. three cheers for a perfect movie!

yeah, this is the BEST movie Ive seen yet! I had to read all of the Narnia books in 6th Grade, and hated them (mostly cause our teacher drilled all the themes into our tiny heads). I was kind of reluctant to see the movie, as it was only 2 or 3 years ago that i had to read them, but my friends and i went to see it anyway, and we were ASTONISHED!!! it is by far the best movie out (proved by the rating in the box-office). Lucy was adorable, and portrayed the Lucy from the book perfectly. Edmund, Susan and Peter were great too, as were the talking animals. The scenes are great for little children - no blood or gore, but the story has underlying themes are great for older children and adults. all of my friends and i are buying it on DVD as soon as it touches the shelves, you should too!!

I went to go see this movie for English class, and I was amazed and entertained. Obviously, ryan didnt read the books, nor did he understand the deeper meaning of exactly what Aslan and the Witch represented. Edmund was portrayed excellently, and I thought of him as Judas, betraying Aslan and Peter, Susan, and Lucy. I especially liked Susan, she was picked very well and almost exactly like the book explained her as. I also reccommend the book, because it is very good and explains whats going on. 5 stars, everyone needs to see it! Totally worth your money!
