The amnesiac plot gave the first movie an interesting storyline the following two lacked. Granted, none of the movies follow Ludlow's books any better than 007 movies resemble Ian Fleming's work, but this is hardly a strike against them. However, they are extremely entertaining and the movies are the same, the first is merely the best effort at character development. Was this review helpful? So , here we have a Good Story badly screenplayed and horribly directed.<br><br>Some initial parts of the novel should have been retained .<br><br>Action is good. Photography is good . Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Decent but nothing like the book.Posted: 8/1/2004A review of The Bourne Identity by bbbbuck The Bourne Identity is the first movie in Robert Ludlum's trilogy. This is a decent adventure that has a few good fight scenes and a great performance from it's star Matt Damon. The only thing that bothered the hell out of me was the fact that this book cut out some amazingly important characters and pretty much changed the plot. The only thing that remains the same is Ludlum's deeply trouble ameniac assasin Jason Bourne (aka David Webb). Doug Liman does not do as good of a job as he should of, he had a chance to make a huge complex movie but he ends up making it quite simple. The good thing about this movie is it sets up the sequel exquistly well. The reason you watch this is to watch the Bourne Supermacy which is a step above this film. Even though I said a few bad things it still wasn't that bad actually the movie is quite good. This is a good spy-thriller. Was this review helpful? Matt Damon gives his role a "toughness" I did not think he had in him, while Franka Potente gives a starlight performance keeping you coming back for more. Matt Damon hasn't had an action role like this before, and it's refreshing to see something new. It is confusing at times, but do you want to see a movie in which you know everything? Hopefully not. Matt Damon gave a good performance, but the storyline was weak, the dialogue confused, and the supporting cast didn't pull their weight.
