This was an interesting and occasionally uninteresting film. Not overly stimulating per se yet Penn's portrayal of a man anguished by loss and-or mental illness is gripping. Credit to Penn for a character that draws you into his raw, emotional pain and refusal to accept the conditioning which prevents the majority of us from challenging the reality of social inequity and injustice

Well folks if you're a Sean Penn fan, like I am, then buckle up and get ready for the ride. In this film you will clearly see why Mr. Penn is widely considered to be one of the greatest actors of his generation! Very good story, well-written, and suspenseful at times, although it is very long and does occasionally drag. But Penn is never boring onscreen, and the way this movie was shot is cool. They did a great job in transporting you back to the early 1970's!! Strong supporting performances too. So, if you want some old-fashioned, gritty, tough, determined drama, Sean-Penn style then this is the film for you! And it's based on a true story too!!

This was a great film. It takes what is common burden to all mankind and explores the "mind bending, soul rending" aspect of rejected love and the struggle to mend it, the grind of working (especially for @holes) being stuck in a dead end existence and wanting to just live the "American dream" and falling short of that by intangible means, such as the hierarchy of society. It clearly illustrates that life is VERY structured by outside forces and the political arena plays a huge part in the lives of all of us. Good and bad. Another great example of this, but on a lighter tone was the HBO film, Weapons of Mass Distraction. The non-musical score prompting climax was every bit as intense and gripping. Give this film a chance. It speaks to all of us in a carefully measured unraveling of a good-natured common man (Penn) and quite honestly - the occurrences that happen in this film could happen to anyone.

Hello everyone! It's been a while. This is one of four films I caught screenings of and I will be brief. This is not about Nixon, but about desperation and a life lost. It's not going to do weel in the box-office, but it's a film I can see why it had to be made. What I enjoyed about this film is that in my opinion, was the balance of sanity in everyday mud that is more common that people believe. We watch this character and call him names, a loser, or other stereotype titles for making the choices he makes. Very few films make the "Soul Lost" character so tragic. His failures are abundantly common. Think of it. Of 6 billion people, there are only a hundred or so people of Penn's status. The rest of us grind and scrape for the small accomplishments we achieve. What I find amazing is when a tragic figure gets to this point. It's never the people he is in lined with or associated with that bare the responsibility. They eventually distance themselves from the tragic figure and blame their own lazy actions on their own busy agendas to see the signs of trouble before they happen. Penn has become a master at taking a character's tragedy, living it and allowing the audience to focus on the flaw, not the actor. He forces all those around him to take heed. Many people share Penn’s characters fear so much. That it stops them for opening the right doors or doing what they love to do in a successful manner. The Assassination of Nixon is slow and diabolical in it's pace, but Penn keeps the audience focused. Like Dog Day Afternoon, you hope he really does kill Nixon, but know in the end, that his fate was sealed from the beginning. This is about the characters and Penn pulls it off.

Nobody can tell yet if this film will stink or be awesome. But if you have seen the movie "Nixon" then you would know that if Nixon had served his full term we would have done a lot more good....mainly, get us out of Vietnam.
