This is certainly an adult movie with adult themes. There are certainly topics that make you uncomfortable. This is the point.
It's great. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 9/8/2005A review of The Aristocrats by Pboy501 The Aristocrats is a masterpiece. It is a trenchant analysis of comedy, culture and taboo. The fact that people reject it as just peurile and filth is part of why it is meaningful. There is so much going on in this movie, the fact that some people can see it and some people don't is one of the most interesting ideas implicit in the movie. I and many of the people I have spoken to who have seen this see so many rich ideas, yet some of the other people commenting here see none of them. Why is that? I see a movie about taboos, about craft and art, about culture, about freedom, about boundaries. Any repetition in this movie is intentional - to see the nuances of difference inn what seems at first to be repetitive. then the variations get more and more pronounced. It's hilarious, but more than that it is compelling and interesting and provocative. It is a great, smart, rich movie that is so full of joy and heart. I have seen it twice, and can't wait to own it on dvd. Was this review helpful? ....I want my 2 hours back. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 8/22/2005A review of The Aristocrats by reeveb1 Obviously a short film that was inflated to feature length for Sundance and theatrical distribution. the first and last ten minutes are funny as &^%* but the 90 minutes inbetween beat a dead a horse, over and over and over again. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 8/14/2005A review of The Aristocrats by Anonymous A variety of well-known and not so well-loan comedians analyze, comment about, describe the first time they heard and tell the world's filthiest and longest dirty joke. If you can handle all of the grossest imaginable taboos in the "set-up" of the innocuous punch line, The Aristocrats, you will laugh for most of the hour and a half. Most plentiful are scatological and incest references although race and religion are not ignored.
Among the theater's older audience, no one appeared to have left which was a surprise since the joke's variable contents are essentially offensive. One goes to be entertained by the absurdity of the often competive efforts made to "top" the last telling of The Aristocrats. I really enjoyed going to see this very offbeat film to be amused, not to judge its societal value. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-5 of 5 Per Page | ||
