Although many had known about Steve Carrell (an a few others to a lesser extent), this movie pretty much put him on the map.
WIth Carell, they worked together fabulously and should be mentioned -
Catherine Keener, Paul Rudd, Romany Malco, Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Leslie Mann, Jane Lynch, Carla Gallo, Kat Dennings, Shelley Malil, Nancy Walls, Mindy Kaling and Gerry Bednob.
Carell wrote this very funny screenplay with director Judd Apatow, who also did a fantastic job of playing up the comedy and moving it along. Was this review helpful? Seth Rogan was probably my favorite actor, although Steve Carell was very good and sheerly likeable. The You know how I know youre gay? scene was definitely my favorite throughout the movie, especially since I rented the unrated version and watched the extended footage. The fact that so much of the dialogue was actually improvised improves the movie greatly, in my opinion-- of course, Im a fan of shows like Wild N Out, so I love improv. You have to see it with an open mind and be expecting crude jokes and language, but its actually a morality tale disguised a a sex comedy. Of course its rude and raucious, but it turns out to be one of the funniest sex movies I have ever seen. I think its better than all of the American Pie films put together. This film has heart and great character development. Its not about teens going around trying to have sex with whatever they can find. Its about grown men, one of whom is a virgin, and how they all look out for each other. Although Andy is a virgin, each of the others have problems of their own, yet they still try to help Andy get laid (with hilariously unsuccessful results). Andy even ends up helping some of them with their problems too. Its a great film with comedy and emotion all inertwined to create the best sex comedy in years. Yes, its dirty, but the end has a very great moral to it, (something which may make religious folks happy). Seeing this movie is a must. If you thought it looked funny, then youll love it. It had some funny scences in it but not enough to keep me from falling asleep. Sometimes after a scene was over i would be like what just happened. And for the people who kept complaining about the repetition of the f-Word and the other sexual contents in the movie, I would just say that how much do they swear every day...... and oh come on, the movies are rated R for some reasons!!!
There were a number of scenes in the movie which made me laugh like hell and those scenes made me laugh every time I see them!(Of course I bought the movie and put it in top of my personal favorites!!!!)
The dialogues were kool and all the actors did the acting very well, its kind of a real life like performances for their characters and that must be appraised.
I recommend it for every comedy lover and hope that theyll like that!!!!

When i sat down to watch it, i expected it to be hilarious, but i found myself forcing even a smile. The only funny scene was when he was getting his chest waxed, and it was only funny the first few times. I do not get why people liked it so much because it was one of the most boring movies i have seen in a long time. It was stupid, and i wish i could sue Steve Carell for the 2 hrs of my life he wasted.

This movie was so contrived, so unrealistic and the acting was so forced. All it was, was a number of lame 4 minute sketches put together to make a full length movie that was not funny what so ever. It was so painful to watch and the worse part is that I kept realizing through the torture of watching this movie that there are thousands if not millions of people who actually like this movie and think it is funny, what a poor commentary on our society, God help us. The only persons who MAY not find it funny is an actual 40-year old virgin, but I dont think they would be offended either because the humor is not based upon virginity, but based upon the actors funny character and the funny situations he falls into just like any good comedy.
