This movie is funny if you're a metal and you have a sense of humor about the stereotypes of the genre. The religious fanatic parents, dope humor, occult references and the obligatory concept metal album with all of the songs seperated by roman numerals. Basically Jack Black is still Dewey Finn from School of Rock, somewhere between Wayne's World, Beavis and Butthead and Cheech and Chong this exists. This is not intellectual comedy if there is such a thing, just pure idiiot humor. The cameo by Dio is great, also. Was this review helpful? Give it a couple months (or weeks if its really bad!) and save yourself the money. I gave up on going to the movies only because I have yet to see a quality movie in theaters in years. Im only 23 so maybe I should try it again but a little advice if in doubt, dont shell it out (money). Say it with me, people...Netflix. Enjoy the movies! Was this review helpful? He has laughed for the last two years,due to a drug related accident,that left him with a terminal laughing disorder. Why? Does Jack Black,think that he is funny? I have never thought him funny or talented. I think he is one of those people who luck out and are discovered by aging,broke agents or deaf,dumb and blind talent scouts. I love the CD and the music. This movie though, was not worth the 7.50 at the movie theatre. If you like the CD then youll find the movie funny, but if you dont youll find yourself wishing for it to be over before the actual plot begins. But, in reality, this movie had no reality in it. Hence the two stars. The only real part was finding out how Jack and Kyle became Tenacious D. The only people who would like this movie are potheads and stoners, thankfully, Im neither. I just cant imagine what would happen if this movie would got nominated for an emmy. I mean, seriously, theres nothing funny to it. The stupidest part was when JB was passed out after their marijuanna experiment and thought he was Bigfoots son. OMFG!!! How ridiculous!!! Jack was way better in Nacho Libre. And how in the world is Kyle Gass Chris Farleys brother? I dont see any resemblence in either one. But, where was the potential in this? And the part where they faced Satan at the end was completely STUPID!!! Id rather pay to see Scary Movie 4 again than this, and that was the worst movie ever created. I hope this movie follows behind Scary Movie 4 off a cliff. And speaking of such, when did Hollywood lose its originality? I mean, Jared Hess is a better director than the director of this crap. If you like metal and you like Tenacious D you will like this movie. If you dont, you wont. Its that simple. This movie has no pretences about being anything more than an awesome comedy with awesome music so if you dont like the style of music or the style of comedy Tenacious D provides youll be wasting your money. On the flip side, if Satan, rock, epic quests, and jokes you only really get if you know Tenacious Ds stuff turns you on, bring a clean pair of pants my friend. Was this review helpful? I dont think it deserves a star. Borat was a million times better.

Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Tenacious D an Unripe PickPosted: 11/20/2006A review of Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny by Charles1030 So Jack Black has cashed in on his success by getting someone to pony up the bucks for an ego project, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, a comic fabrication about how he and Kyle Gass formed their musical duo.
Only the most tenacious, diehardiest Tenacious D fans could love Pick of Destiny, an inside joke that runs out of laughs five minutes in yet lingers through an hour and a half of self-satisfied mugging thats irritating.
Director Liam Lynch, a Black and Gass pal who has worked with them on Tenacious D short films and a DVD release by the duo, shares screenwriting credit with the two stars.
What they came up with is no more trite than, say, Bill Teds Excellent Adventure, but that musical odyssey offered genuine and consistent mainstream laughs.
Pick of Destiny opens with promise in an amusing scene involving the rebellious young Black (Troy Gentile, who also played his young incarnation in Nacho Libre) in an rock-opera sing-off against his dad (Meat Loaf) over the boys love of the foul rock sound.
Black, known here as JB, leaves home, wandering the country in search of his destiny, eventually arriving with guitar on his back in Hollywood, where he falls in with street musician KG (Gass).
After some initial growing pains, they form Tenacious D, their self-proclaimed greatest band on Earth, and try their hand at an open-mike night, where their odd, manic duet goes over like stale beer.
From rock magazines, they notice that all the great strummers use the same devilish guitar pick.
I thought that the movie sticks to formula but delivers some seriously dumb laughs.
But thats essentially what Pick of Destiny is a comedy sketch, painfully prolonged to movie length. Nice try, but no. Was this review helpful? The comedy was out of left field and so was the music. The songs were refreshingly nostalgic, defiantly modern and irrepressibly infectious (not to mention unique). The movie will step up the story, the music and characters in the way only the big screen can do. I look forward to a new rendition of Jesus Ranch (I am speculating as it was the best song they have written but alas it was not included on thier debut album). Oscars, AMAs, Golden Globes and Emmys should rain down on JB KG like acid hellfire. Kage is brilliant in his delivery of understated yet scathing commentary throughout the film, and of course JB is the star of every scene as he cruises through dialogue and physical comedy like a scalded cat. Dont miss this movie whatever you do. Diehard TD fans will want to stay through the closing credits for outtakes and cameos by everyone from Burt Reynolds to Don Rickles. And the unexpected nude scene featuring a certain duo with the San Diego Charger cheerleaders in a Swiss Alps spa is worth DOUBLE the price of admission!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was this review helpful?
